Fostex makes a converter (co2) if you need optical

Any particular brands you would recommend? Saw a number of them on ebay pretty
cheap, but not sure how good they need to be.

Are you referring to the coax cables? There's a lot of hype about cables,
don't know how much of it is accurate. May'be an expert here can offer a
recommendation. I'll be needing some myself.

I can tell you that cables do make a difference in certain situations. I had
a 10' Hosa "high quality" s/pdif cable run from my Eventide to an RME 9652.
It was unusable, with clicks and high pitched squeels. I returned them as
defective for an identical set. Still had the same problem. I then returned
them for a set of 15' Apogee s/pdif and it is fine. On the other hand, the
Hosa 3' s/pdif cables worked fine in a different situation.

What would be the advantage with the optical? Im going to spdif from Emu
1212m to Paris. The emu card has coax and optical.

I use 3 x M-Audio digipatch units to route signals to different things. Some
of them have coax spdif, some have optical (which will also carry ADAT
litepipe) and since each Digipatch unit only has 6 spdif or optical I/O, if
I run out of coax I/O on the unit and I still need to patch a coax device to
another coax device that is interfacing with the Digipatch, I can use a
coax-to-optical converter to patch this coax device into the
Digipatch..........simple, huh?

For your application, there would be little advantage going optical as
you would have to convert at the MEC. Optical DOES have lower jitter
by nature though, so if you have the availability, choose optical over
coax.
