Hello NG,

Anyone want to chime in on the PreSonus Eureka mic pre/compressor/EQ? GC
has one for $500.00. This seems real close to what I want. Class A, single
space, single channel, clean, minimal coloration with compressor under $1K.
Primarily for vox (I'm looking for a bit more warmth and a bit less
brittle/harshness and soft knee comp) but I've read it works pretty good as
a DI for bass guitar too. I've read that they have some pretty top notch
gear for the price. Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks guys and

I havent heard any negatives on that box. I havent A/B'd one against my
Vipre ,but they do have the variable impedance knob for your coloring
pleasure.
Talk to Barry or Morgan at ECCM for a more in depth . I know they all love

I've never liked PreSonus mic pres at all, though their firewire drivers are
excellent and I use their interface with my laptop. However, the drummer
in my band bought a Eureka and it really sounds fantastic. I wish the pres
in the rest of their gear sounded half as good.

I have always been a fan of Presonus Pre's. I have both the M80 and the VXP
and I always get good results with them. I haven't used the Eureka personally,
but I have read nothing but favorable reviews.

Thanks guys. I purchased the Eureka. Got a pretty good deal at GC. $435
with some sweet talking and coupons.

The unit sounds pretty clean and clear with just a tiny bit of
electronic/processing heard. The soft knee compression is just what I
needed. The 3 band parametric is pretty sensitive and a +/- 2 or 3 db is
audible. The VU is nice showing either output gain or compression gain
reduction. The compressor and EQ have a bypass for a reality check. The
variable input impeadance does dramatically change the gain and tone of my
mic. I use a Conneaut Audio Devices (CAD) Equitek E-100 with 200 ohm
impeadance. Using the Eureka in 600 ohm the mic is bright and using 150 ohm
it's quite a bit darker sounding. The saturation control (digital tube
simulation for warmth) using a FET draining method does smooth out harshness
and brashness but also cuts some of the clarity and airyness. One thing
that is annoying is that the shiny sky blue knobs, although pretty, are hard
to see the white line on them all the time. Fortunately, I plan to set and
forget once I've dialed in my vox. They do have just enough detent to feel
changes. All in all, I'm happy.
