The newer Apple mighty mouse doesn't look like it has multi buttons, but
it works like it does, and it has a trackball/scroll ball on top. Give it
a try next time you get a chance. I've been using a Kensinton Expert mouse
pro (Track Ball), a Macally optical track ball, a top of the line Microsoft
wireless optical mouse, and many others. As long as it's USB it will work,
scroll wheels the works. Some times special function buttons won't work
with out it's unique special driver. most any thing you plugin will work
though. Your Windows PC keyboards will work also.
Fyi, even back in the ADB (serial) port days multi button mice worked. Apple
was funny about keeping the simplicity with a one button mouse for beginners.
There are a lot of products Apple doesn't make because they want to keep
encouraging third parties to keep developing for the Mac. So they let them
go and don't step on their toes.
Not eve Mac user could figure out why Apple hung on sooooooooo long to the
one button!

Well this is kind of a loaded question. I guess it depends on what exactly
your talking about. If you mean, hard drives, RAM, CD/DVD burners ect.,
no. If your talking about installing a PC version of a video card as an
example, it could void you warranty, but who'd be dumb enough to tell them
what you did??? By the way, there are many Mac guys that have flashed a
PC version of a video, or SCSI card or something, with the mac flash and
it worked.
Example, Steve Cox is using a PC version of a video card in one of his G4s.
We know what your thinking Dr. Frankenstein!

Apple hard drives are too expensive also! If it's a desk top, and you don't
care about the iDVD software, you can order it with out a DVD burner. Apple
uses Pioneer and some Sony DVD burners. There are sites that tell you which
models they use. Just drop one in later and save a good hundred bucks.
Jamie is right, best to wait a bit, Apple is about to drop new models. Rumor
is, that Apple has a new faster smaller tower in the works. I just hope
they don't do something stupid and limit the PCI slots. Some manufactures
are starting to put card buss on towers, so who knows?

The reason for using Pioneer or Sony for the DVD player, is because Apple's
multi media software will work with it. You can use other brands of burners
with a Mac, but you would need to get toast or dragon burn or some other
software. Many drives will come with an OEM version of toast or some thing.
I think Apple also used some Toe_shit_ba drives (Toshiba).

delayed because of Vista incompatibility, is untrue.
Like I say, I would never buy Apple upgrades or their monitors, because they
are just way too expensive. To be a little more fair, compare you MOBO prices
to Intel MOBO prices, because that is what Apple is using. They also have
the cost of their proprietary Apple ROM chips. The truth and the bottom
line is, Apple will never be able to compete with the roll your own PC pricing.
I think they will even have trouble competing with Dell at times on some
things. It's supply and demand.

these new AMD CPU's have me intrigued. I'd be building myself a quadcore
(maybe even a dual quadcore) right about now if it wasn't for the fact that
AMD has something new up their sleeve.
Thanks for all the Mac info BTW. I can see how the cost could be lowered a
bit by going with some 3rd party hardware. If I was logic user, I'd be
turning flips thinking about all the new goodies that are in the works.

if you use an pc mouse there are right click functions.
it should invalidate your warranty but they will say (this is what
they told me on my old g4) that once you install any soft or hardware
and if the computer fails to function properly (even though others do
with the same) it's your fault or the fault of the components or the
fault of the weather but not their machine.
the last place i would get ram from is apple. there's nothing special
about it other than they've tested it and it works. you can buy the
same ram from just about anywhere for 1/4 the cost.

Nobody else does this in the industry, only Apple.
If you talk to some body higher up you can sometimes get stuff done. there
first line of support will some times tell you stupid stuff like just reinstall
your operating system. If you listen who's fault is that? Some of those
people are right out of training. You got to go higher!
Apple needs to fix stuff like that. Although, no company can or will support
every configuration.

the MacPro tower was specially engineered to work in that machine. Like
I said, it has heat sinks on the memory. That is how they got so much RAM
in the MacPro, and as close together as it is. As I know it, if you put
regular ram in those machines, you will kill the MOBO with in a couple of
years.

The ONLY thing I like about the Mighty Mouse is the scoll ball. If it
didn't have that, it would "fly" to the trash....

after 8 months i and the dealer were dealing with the higher ups. it
was they who told me the news. remember i had the logic board, cpu
and boot drive replaced twice by them. rather than admit the ff800
made only for one month prior to the g5 just didn't work right until
10.3.7 came out.
as to configuration support...i guess that would be logic and the
ensemble...and fuck the rest of the world.
i guess i'd have to see the special engineering they have as any bench
marking we've done with both apple and non apple ram show no
difference other than price.

Many people have and do use the PowerMac G4 800 with no problems, including
Audio guys, so.....I don't know what's up with that.
I don't know when you bought your G4 FW800. The power Mac G4 FW 800 was
released at Macworld in January 2003, and was discontinued in late June 2003,
so about 6 months. This wouldn't be considered short for a PC model.

Oh, does Microsoft and Dell support Steinberg, cakewalk, RME and Presonus
configured on their products? How about the slapped together PCs? Nobody

DJ was talking about the RAM that goes in the Intel Mac Pros. It is different
than standard RAM in that it has a heat sink on the memory. Look on page
four, it's not standard memory. You can buy cheaper memory from third parties
like I said, you don't have to buy the high priced Apple memory.

purchased the day before the g5's debut.
fuck the rest of the world is more for now. they're position was
anything anytime not working was due to the "other" and not them.
when os updates make some mfgs. ram no longer compatible the wtf.
even though it was mac's doing they were blaming others for their
short comings with firewire and it's working with outside produced
gear. then later (years) admit it's theirs.
why you keep dragging pc's into this i don't know. the discussion
here was about a mac. i effing know that one can and does encounter
problem with compatibility issues with certain mobos and gear. but
you don't see posts pulled by other mfg's. the way you do mac. if
there's a negative post or topic they are most likely to be pulled by
the mac moderators.
memory with heat sinks is hardly new and not a mac invention. i've
had that on my mushkin ram for years before mac "invented it"
