RodAre you using a nice "short" high density IDE cable? Try CS mode on
the drive to see if this helps also.

>>In version 4.0 of the UAD-1 software, UA introduces Tempo Sync: the ability
to synchronize the delays and modulation rates of UAD-1 plug-ins to the host
application tempo, and Turbo DMA (Direct Memory Access) to maximize
stability and performance on dual-core and multiprocessor AMD and Intel
systems.

Also included is a fully functional 14-day demo of the brand new Roland
Dimension D. The Dimension D costs $149 USD with authorizations available
from my.uaudio.com.

For a limited time, you can purchase the Big BOSS Bundle: the Roland
Dimension D with the BOSS CE-1 for only $199, a savings of $49!

The Dimension D is a one of a kind studio gem that adheres to the principle
of doing one thing, and doing it extremely well. Its one and only function:
some of the best sounding stereo chorus ever made. However the Dimension D
is more than a chorus, it is really a unique sound enhancer for adding
spatial and stereo widening effects. This classic 1979 Roland device has
been heard on countless records, from luminaries such as Peter Gabriel,
Talking Heads and INXS. Universal Audio went to great lengths to preserve
this Bucket Brigade chorus with all its unique design elements and sonic
characteristics. With only four pushbutton 'dimension' settings, the
Dimension D is the ultimate in functional simplicity.

Accurate model of unique Dimension D chorus effect

Designed for subtle chorus and spatial effects

Entrusted by Roland for accurate analog modeling

Identical look, controls, and operation of its analog counterpart

Four pushbuttons for four different levels of effect intensity <Deej, you know what will happen if you don't get these plugins!!! I'll bet
you've already have them.

when it works it's great and sucks when it doesn't. if the guy from
atari had any balls, there probably wouldn't be a mac but just a
really kickass functioning audio platform.

chainer or Spinaudio (alone crashes Paris) it wrapps UAD1 plugins (and not
only) and lower the latency down to 2048 samples only !
That is 46.44 ms at 44.1khz
This compared to 16384 samples of FXpansion is a big leap forward.
Chainer (wrapped with Spinaudio again) has a latency of 4096 samples.
This is free still in beta version but works fine (only from inside chainer)
It must sound stupid to have to wrap chainer from Spinaudio and then load
multifxvst from inside Chainer, but if you want low latency (remember 2048
latency) you do this once and then just open the Spinaudiowrapped chainer
and load multifxvst.
Because of the lower latency you can hear the UAD effect without having to
compensate before you hear if you like it or not.
Remember do NOT put multifxvst right from inside Paris alone with no chainer
because it will crash Paris, and probably you will have to reboot then.
I will get in contact with the author for any updates of it.

Rod,
I have removable SATAs in my comp. I wanted beige and got them.
The second pair I purposely bought black to differentiate them.
Sometimes it's a good thing. XP black, ME beige.?.

Use chainer on the channels you are sending to reverb (here I use Plate140
(ok I just got the demo playing) )
So on track 1 I use kick with chainer and then inside chainer senderella1 as
send
Track 2 is snare again I put chainer and then inside senderella1 as send
again.
I use the desired amount in sending from inside senderella.
Then on tracks 15 and 16 ( i chose those because they are last and more easy
to figure out and also senderella sending must always be before senderella
receiving.
I put there 16 bit mono Paf silenced files.
I open as stereo chainer on track 15 (on par with 16) and put inside
senderella1 as return.
Then I put UAD1 Plate140.
Now I choose two things to do :

1) I either use from inside chainer the free multifxvst which lowers UAD
latency to 2048 samples which is almost adequate for vocal reverb because
you need some 40ms predelay.
If that is too much I then do this nice trick !

2) I put after senderella1 send on each track (kick and snare here) the
voxengo sampledelay for 2048 if I use multifx, if I just use chainer then
4096 or more for effect.
The trick is to put on every other track (without chainer if not needed) the
sample delay to delay the rest of the tracks for 2048 or 4096
NOTE : I have wrapped chainer from Spinaudio to have the 4096 lower latency
and have all VU and buttons working.
Note that Spinaudio is free for one plugin so you can wrap only Chainer ...

If you don't have chainer and don't wanna mess with all that stuff here is a
workaround.

On track 1 (kick) you put senderella1wrapped from Spinaudiofree. On track
2 senderella 1 again , both tracks as sends with desired amount of volume.
On tracks 15 and 16 you put as stereo file the Spinaudiowrapped Senderella1
as return and then on second Paris slot as stereo the free FFX4 (DX
chainer)
This gives again the 4096 sample latency for UAD plugins and you load there
your UAD reverb
Thus you have the above again situation.

NOTE :
YOU MUST USE EDSTransfer 8,16 for senderella to work.
Regards,
DimitriosHere is my method if you don't have or want to buy chainer.

On track 1 (kick) you put senderella1 wrapped from Spinaudiofree. On track
2 senderella 1 again , both tracks as sends with desired amount of volume.
Don't fprget to redirct on snderella when sending in order not to have
double hits.

On tracks 15 and 16 you put as stereo file the Spinaudiowrapped Senderella1
as return and then on second Paris slot as stereo the free FFX4 (DX
chainer)
This gives again the 4096 sample latency for UAD plugins and you load there
your UAD reverb

I put there 16 bit mono Paf silenced files.

NOTE :
YOU MUST USE EDSTransfer 8,16 for senderella to work.
Regards,
DimitriosNow to compensate for the 4096 samples delay you do the following.
Put on each track (tracks 1 and 2 (kick-snare) voxengo FREE sample delay for
4096 samples latency.
Now all tracks are delayed except for the revrbed ones because the
senderella is sending BEFORE voxengo .
Regards,
Dimitrios

If you can, yeah, try it... I've used one of those MS-16's, but
it was literally almost two decades ago and I can't recall if
it had a hard-bypass on the NR or not (I'm not a big fan of
that dbx NR on those decks - it really lends a certain
unmistakable characteristic to the sound). In any event, if I
were you, I'd try taking an existing track in Paris & slamming
it to tape, then coming back in off the sync head (then nudging
backwards a bit if it needs to be aligned with the original),
and see what you get... good way to test to see if you like the
effect you'll get without having to cut a track specially for
that.

NeilThanks David, I thought I was going a little bonkers reading that last post.
the "sync" head is just that...sync..E/E

OK, I'll try re-doing some L/R tracks into stereo interleaved
tracks & report back if I notice a difference in CPU usage.

NeilInterestingly enough, I was shooting a story on an older producer (Peter
Dawkins), that was around in my days as a "music engineer", (24 tk Studers
and the like), who had to stop in the mid 80's due to Parkinson taking hold.
This guy was one of Australias top, (if not THE top), music engineers of the
time.
To make a long story short, he has come through the Parkinsons now, (ground
breaking surgery), and is back producing..in the digital realm, (and
enjoying it), but...he records the old way...multitracking
guitars..octaves..all the type of stuff we all did back in the 80's, without
the luxury of heaps of tracks and cut and paste.
He and Richard Lush , (Seargent Peppers and onwards at Abbey Road) along
with Peters son (to show the new way) are about to do some master classes
for younger engineers here in Sydney, and I bet they will be full the first
day of release.

I was replying to Dave Parkins comment of this:

"Howdy,

If you use the repro heads, the sound will go straight
on-off tape with very little time delay. You can use one
tape for an entire album this way. The repro heads stripe to
tape, and send back to monitor post tape.

Cheers"

Which was incorrect in its terminology of the tape heads...
hence the description I gave.
