Hi Rick,
I found out that it is PT that has a single file limit of 2GB. That
is 2:03:00 at mono 24/96. I was doing a test for a live show coming
up that I have to track. I just have to make sure I don't use any
stereo tracks and I should be fine.
Oh, and here is a lame tidbit of info... this is right from Digi's site...
"IDE/ATA & SATA Hard Drives
SATA Hard Drives
Internal SATA drives are qualified for up to 32 tracks, 24 bit,
44.1/48 kHz with Pro Tools|HD systems on Power Mac G5 models.
Dedicated recording drives only, recording to the startup drive is not
supported."
Seems kinda low, doesn't it... talk about covering your ass!

HI David,
Is that file size limit also when using Broadcast Wave? BWF size is 4
gigs. Does PT have a auto split function at all?
That would be a pretty big limitation of the Venue system I would think.
Glad none of th native apps have this limitation. :)

32 tracks at 24/44-48 is low for SATA. 100+ is no problem with native rigs.
I guess if Digi sets expectations low, it's easier to exceed them and look
really good. :-)

ya know...i really have to read the posts when i'm more
awake...somehow i thought it was a logic question. i think i've been
away from cigarettes and booze for too long...must correct soon or
i'll become even more me.

Hi Chris,
Yep, that was using BW. This is a ProTools limitation, and I agree a
surprising one at that. I was quite shocked that Digi says I can only
record 12 simultaneous tracks onto one drive at 24/96, even though I
did a 2 hour test recording 48 tracks to one drive! On a recent Sarah
McLachlan tour, they recorded 60 tracks at 24/96 to two drives over 60
separate dates without issue.

HI David,
Yes very odd PT stuff.
We usually setup our live MADI systems that have 128 ch MADI setup so
that each MADI cards tracks are going to their own drive. Example tracks
1-64 drive 1, tracks 65-128 drive 2. of course divide by 2 for 96k. This
seems to be the overall safe point for the live systems. You have to
factor having the drives start to slow down as they start to get full.
We use Cubase/Nuendo for this stuff so it's easy to set multiple record
paths in a project. We don't have deal with Raid arrays and all that crap.

I was wondering if you were thinking of using a temperal plugin to
adjust the tempo track... ;-)
