Hi Sarah,
New NT1a's go for about $225, used between $125 - $150. Dunno what a Proteus
1 is worth. I know folks who like NT1a's pretty well. What other mics do
you have already?

I was watching a proteus 1 auction on ebay other day. Seems like they tend
to go 50-80 range in many cases, but I'm not really sure about all the optional
sounds that it might come with (seems like they call the sound sets "Roms"?)
some recent Rode NT1a on ebay auctions have gone for 150+.
I've noticed Craigslist prices might be a tad lower than ebay if you kind
find what you're looking for locally, might check those boards too, just
not a big of a selection.

Makes it sound like a good deal for Sarah. It never hurts to have another
good large diaphragm condenser mic around the studio and the Rode is supposed
to be pretty good.

Not a big fan of the Rodes, except maybe the Classic.
Bright, sibilant, kind of harsh in my experience.
That being said, you may find more of a use for it than the Proteus.
Then again, it may be perfect for your application, who knows?
I'd rather have a used SM7b, or a couple 57's instead, but obviously
that's not on the table.
So yeah, I would totally do the trade, but just don't have too high of
expectations from that mic.

yeah, I loved the Classic we had at Tisway. Great mic. Held up very well
against the KSM stuff.

I have a NT1 that I got free. It is as bright as a mic can be.
It worked great on a very timid non singer. I mean great too.
That's about it so far.
I keep it because the price was right and it might work again on something.
