It is limited in a way, but it's really nice at what it does.
Last night I was doing a/b comparisons with my A Designs Hammer outboard
tube EQ, which I love to death (Ideally I'd have a few of them if I
could afford it).
The brillance pack does similar things to the highs on a track, in the
sense that it does impart some measure of the air and depth that the
hammer brings. Not quite as nice as the Hammer, but enough of that
similar vibe to put a big smile on my face, and sometimes it was really
close. I tried it on individual tracks and the 2 buss. It will do nicely
to fill that role until I can buy more hammers :)
I had no real expectations of it compared to the hammer, but that was a
pleasant surprise. It's also so easy to use and just really sounds good
on most things.
I've also got a trial demo on my ilok for the SPL twin tube saturation
plugin, and I'm demoing the Eiosis Air EQ, both of which are also great.
The Air EQ demo doesn't time out but it doesn't save presets, so you can
really have time to test it out. The SPL is a 14 day demo. Unfortunately
I'm not going to be able to live without either of them.. Eiosis also
has their deesser that I want to check out, as it's cheaper if you buy
their plugs in a bundle (they have quite a big discount at checkout).
Also, the Abbey Road pack is developed by Softube, so that's a good
indicator of their quality.
There really just seems to be some scary good plugins coming out these
days..

Have you heard the Doc Fear program for Nebula? You're right, plugins
have come a long way.

Hi TC,
It's a new kind of dynamic sampling engine that can handle harmonics and
modulation. They are about to release a new version that should be a
little easier to use, but they have a free version that has some ok
programs to try. There are free and commercial libraries.
You can sample your own gear -- you could sample your Hammer EQ.
It's a real CPU and memory hog and introduces a lot of latency. If you
like the sound, it's worth it. Only bummer is most of the samples are
done at 44.1k at the moment. Also most of the EQ programs are 1 band at
a time, so you need multiple instances for more bands. I think they're
working on that.

I did a little proofreading for the last site there for full disclosure.
I could process some tracks for you with the BAE 1073, API 550B and Doc
Fear (it's the DW Fearn EQ) if you'd like to hear it without
downloading. I have a few Lexicon presets too, though I haven't used
them much yet (just got this last month). It's not perfect, but I think
it has a lot of potential.

I also like the Air EQ and the PLParEQ is also very nice.
