I'm jealous. Two cards, two MECs, two C16s, two 8ins and an ADAT card here. On the "medium term" list are two more ADAT cards, "long term" another Bundle III.

I own 5 EDS-1000 cards. Three in my main studio computer in a Magma expansion chassis, one in my "road" computer for the occasional remote gig and one in my workshop wondering whether or not it works right.

I own 3 cards, two in the computer. Two C-16s (one in the control room and one in the studio with an extra monitor) 2 MECs, 3 input, 2 output, and 1 ADAT that I use into an 8 channel lightpipe interface for headphones.
I did have three cards in at one point but never came close to using all the channels, I did like having 3 submixes though...

Hi,
I have 5 eds cards NO magma or other chassis expansion.
Just use a PB4 ausu motherboard that has 6 pci slots.
Use to have four mecs attached each with two adat cards all working at that time for quite so long until I sold adta cards and most of mecs.
I use one now with one adat card and two 24 input cards...
Regards,
Dimitrios

Just dusted off my original Dual G4 tower PARIS rig. Eight EDS cards in a Magma, six MECs, two custom dual ADAT interfaces, four C-16's. Wonder if it still boots...

I made those about the time that the newsgroup disappeared. I had gotten some of the Wavefront ADAT chips and it was my first completed hardware project, pretty much just a connection between the EDS card and the ADAT ports mounted in a 1U chassis. A lot easier to deal with than a MEC with a couple ADAT cards. After that, I got a bunch of the Alps RSA0N motor faders and mocked up the C-16 replacement. I think it was about then that the aliens abducted my daughter's brain, so I just dropped everything...

If I were to do it again, I'd probably use a Blackfin or maybe an ARM chip for control. I was briefly involved with the Qix project (Chameleon replacement) so I had also considered adding in a Freescale 56724 Symphony chip...

I have 2 cards, 2 mecs, 2 c-16's.
1 8 in on one MEC.
I am going to add another 8 in. I plan to install it the second mec so I can record 24 bit to the second realtime mix. Is that the best way to use it?
What are the ADAT cards used for?
I have only used PARIS and Wavelab on my system.
Thanks!

Heya John! Depends on whether you only need up to eight inputs at a time; another thing you could do is just add the 8 into the first MEC and assign the card it's connected to (A) to whatever submix you want to record (all sixteen tracks) into at any given time.

As far as ADAT cards - I suppose there may be some people who are actually using them with ADATS but far more now use them as eight-channel pipelines into and/or out of similarly equipped devices - say eight channels in from a Presonus DigiMax D8 or eight back and forth between PARIS and an RME 9652 to sync with and pass audio to another DAW like Reaper.

Hey Kerry,
Thanks for the help!
So I could put both 8 ins in the same mec, assign them to the same submix so I can do 16 in at once,
But I would still need both EDS cards/MECs to mix 32 tracks in real time.
I think I have used the 8 in and the mec's 4 ins together (if I don't mind using the 20 bit inputs), is that ok?
Do you notice a big difference in sound quality between the 20 and 24 bit ins? Or maybe it makes a difference when you dither to 16 bits?
Thanks again for the help!

That should be fine - I'll take PARIS at 20 bits over most systems at 24 anyway. There seems to be a general consensus around those who've done a lot of critical listening that neither the app nor the converters are responsible for PARIS' famed "mojo" - if I'm not misremembering, that seems to be in the interaction between the ParisStudioControl driver and the EDS DSP (the app seems basically a sophisticated "control panel" for the PSCL).

Kerry - just wondering, do you hook up word clock of your RME card to Paris and slave to Paris' clock ?
I have just got a digi9652 (limited to running on 32bit sadly)
as my Pulsar cards just weren't playing ball, so it's new territory for me.
I did also ask Mike Audet if it might be possible at some point to stream audio in/out of Paris via his new drivers in some way - perhaps using something like Jack Audio which already routes Asio between other asio applications and hardware...
However that's probably a lot of work...and for now I'll be focussing on enjoying the super new drivers. Smile

I've changed from a G5 to an iMac so I've left the RME 9652 in favor of an RME Babyface, but the beauty of the 9652 is that it's one of the few remaining cards which support 9-pin ADAT sync. Reaper read that info very nicely as APP (ASIO Positioning Protocol) - my sync worked very well using that.

If you've got the 9652 and an ADAT card, you've already got most of what you want - just route via ADAT optical, there's only a single sample of latency.

So you recommend using the Adat sync (I usually hear bad things about that) and not using the word clock ?
I know some people say that all you need is the litepipe as there's jitter correction etc on most cards, but I want to go the most robust and reliable route.

I can;t remember if I also used word clock; main thing for me was that ADAT sync satisfied my need for positional sync as well.

Well I've got RME successfully installed and Reaper open and Paris open - but having problems getting audio from the adat ports inside paris...probably just need to go back to the manual.

I'm currently running V2.1 so if you have any tips please feel free to share.

Meanwhile ...of to look out the manual - hopefully it's something obvious.

FWIW, 5 cards in a Magma 13 slot. I could run up to eight (I have the slots and the cards), but 5 is more than enough.
