I got an email from Gildas JALABERT, Sales Manager at Virtua Via yesterday telling me that the expansion chassis is still available.

I have no idea why they didn't respond to my phone calls and emails before, but I got two replies yesterday (one from an email I sent, and one from a contact through their web form).

Here is Gildas contact information:

I've been using their expansion kit for a long time now, and it's been perfect.

It can be ordered with a ExpressCard host connection, too, which should work to bridge it with a ExpressCard Thunderbolt adapter.

PARIS Lives!

Correction:
As Mike says below, the PCI expansion chassis with the wall wart will not work. You would need to get the current Virtua Via chassis.

Hi James,

Those expansion chassis use a wall wart to power the PCI cards. The EDS cards draw about 20 watts from the 5 volt lead each, which is too much for a wall wart. You might get one card to work in these, but definitely not two.

The Virtua Via chassis is so unique because it uses an ATX power supply, just like the Magma options, but for a fraction of the price.

All the best!

Mike

I got the Express Card connection from Virtua Via a few days ago.

I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I'll post when I do.

All the best,

Mike

Hi Don,

I haven't had a chance to try the ExpressCard adapter yet. It turns out my laptop is so old that it has a cardbus slot. I need to find a time when I am free and I can borrow my wife's laptop.

I'm very confident that it will work just fine.

All the best,

Mike

I couldn't find any VirtuaVia Chassis available, new or used. I did find several MAGMA PE6R4-1 both new and used (new ones are crazy expensive). Any issues with those, or is there a source for the VirtuaVia's that I'm missing?

I pulled the trigger on a Magma PE6R4-1. Hope this wasn't a mistake, but if so tell me. It's a fixable mistake.

My overall goal is a stable system that will run 4 cards. No midi or anything else is necessary. I can get other computers to do that.

Assuming the Magma will work, next up is a modern computer and operating system to go with the Magma. I can build a computer if necessary. What's the thought on either a current Mobo and parts, or (preferably) whole system.

Also, operating system. Should I just go with Windows 10, or should I buy a copy of Windows 7 and install fresh? This computer only has to run Paris and any programs necessary to get from Paris files to .wav. It never has to be connected to the internet or do other tasks.

Finally, I'm still using WaveLab lite to go from Paris to .wav. Will that still work, or is there a better option? If so, what?

Sorry for all of the questions.
