If everything is black and no beep at power up, there can be so much that's
doing the trouble. First of all I think you shall take of the powercable
back on the computer and let it rest some minutes without any passive power
at all. Controll all the cables to see that they're OK inside and outside
and try starting once again. If nothing's yet happening and it's all black
yet, there can be many different faults. First of all, control the
powersupply that it's OK. If so, it can be a bad seated or collapsed graphic
card or a collapsed chipset on the motherboard. It's not good to say at all,
this is just some ideas I have that I know can make these kind of problems.

IMO, this is absolutely a power supply issue. I went through
two of them, with the exact symptoms you have described.
Get a 550W supply, and you should be fine.

If you still cant get a beep out of it at this point and this box was
running perfectly before, I think you may need to go shopping for a new
MoBrd my friend.

OK, so maybe the recorder in it doesn't sound as good as Paris. Sure, it's
only 16 bit, and only 8 tracks...
....but it really is impressively easy to use. Convenient. Obviously no good
for any actual release stuff, but for mucking around, excellent, and for
looping... ;o)
Well looping is just the best. It's not actually the best looper in the world
as such. Some features of dedicated loopers, like reverse for example, are
absent. On the other hand you do get 8 tracks to loop on which isn't bad,
and what I especially like is that it has track buttons like a proper recorder,
so you can create 4 loops which play together, and then mute any one, or
two, or whatever, and then bring those loops back later on if you like. This
allows a lot of flexability in terms of building a peice.
I especially like the way the thing works. With some peices of gear you just
never get along with them and feel like it's a fight to get the job done,
but others are intuative and you find yourself agreeing with all the design
decisions, and when you disagree, half an hour later you end up going "Ah,
THAT's why they've done it that way!!". The GNX4 is one of the latter for
me. How it's laid out makes sense to me. There's a lot to this box, and I
reckon I've got a hold on about 3/4 of it or more already. That's not bad
for two nights mucking about.
As far as the sounds go, I haven't plugged it in to Paris or anything yet
to have a good listen, but so far the sounds have mostly impressed me. I've
heard it said that the actual amp models on this box aren't entirely accurate,
but that it's strength lies in the "WARP" feature, which allows you to make
combinations of two seperate amp/cabinet setups. From what I've heard so
far this does sound like a powerful tool. It does seem to be a true warp
function, and some very effective results can be had by criss crossing between
different cabinet models. I've heard there is a set of some 1000 odd presets
you can now buy which utilise the warp feature, which I'm considering purchasing.
Even the virtual pickup settings seem to work quite well... humbucker to
single coil and visa versa. I was expecting some cheap EQ effect, but whatever
they've done sounds like it's much more effective.
I can't wait to hook it up to a keyboard and get the vocoder working. ;o)

cards are notorious for dying and causing this kind of problem. Pull everything
out except the video card and see if it starts. If not, it's a bad cpu.

My Digitech RP2000, a previous version of their amp modeler/FX pedal, is
a real workhorse. It sounds good, is built solidly and has been very
dependable for gigging with acoustic guitar, electric guitar and violin.

And Dimitrios is right, I should see if mercinary will let me take a few
units out. Even if I pay a rental fee. I know what I am lookinng for is not
goinng to be the last pre I buy. I just need sort of an all around up grade
for main overdubs. This seems like a good chois.

system completely. I had one sitting on top of the other. They do generate
some (but not a whole lot of) heat. Perhaps that was the reason they failed
about the same time.
