Tracking/Overdubs and Latency [message #64184]

Hi,
When I'm tracking a band , I send them back the live output from my mixer
( not the Paris output ) since I assume there is some latency in the Paris
system.

However , when I'm overdubbing I have no choice but to mix a paris out
stream ( the previously recorded tracks ) and the live mixer. I'm doing drums
a lot , so the latency issue is important to the performance. I do notice
if I leave both feeds is I can hear a "phasing" a little bit.

Questions:
1) Has anybody ( or how could I?) measure the latency of Paris in this
situation?

2) What's the right model for headphone sends here , all paris or paris
and mixer output?

3) Should I be moving the overdub tracks slightly in time to adjust
for the latency in 1) or am I making a mountain out of a molehill here?

I use Pars only as the monitor, I never ecall anyone haveing trouble with
latency in perfomance. I defintely felt this was a problem when I used a
very old version of PT on and old mac. But don't find an issue at all in
Paris. Maybe just send only the Paris mix and not the board mix too, I just
use a little furman headphone amp which is sent signal from the MEC sends

Paris latencies:

Round trip via insert (EDS "External") through SPDIF I/O = 1 Sample

Round trip via insert (EDS "External") through MEC 24 bit
analog Out to analog In = 60 Samples = 1.36ms/44.1KHz or 1.25ms/48K

Total record and monitor path (Channel In/Stereo Master Out) MEC 24 bit
analog In to analog Out = 66 Samples = 1.5ms/44.1Khz or 1.375ms/48KHz

EDS compressor with no lookahead = 2 Samples

EDS EQ = 0 Samples

You shouldn't have any problems with audible latency at 1.5ms or 1.375ms
