I hope someone can help me with this same lock up issue. I have just switched
over my Paris system to a new PC. It is an AMD 3800 dual core processor on
an ASUS MB. I have only Paris loaded on it so far. I have loaded the XP drivers
and effects subsystem. I still run Paris 2.2. I had no problems with my previous
PC runing on XP other than it was slow. Now I get the same symptoms as Wayne
did on this new system. Paris just locks up. I have tried following all of
the tweaks and still no luck. Does anyone else have an other ideas?

Most likely it's the dual core. Paris is notoriously not cool with dual CPU
set ups.

Well that would suck. A little too late t change my PC now. I wonder if there
is a way to configure the CPU to operate differently. ie: emulate a single
core.
It is an intermittent issue at this point so I am not dead in the water.
Pretty much every time I start up Paris everything is ok except the odd time
the 442 is not recognized. It is when I open an existing project that it
sometimes locks up. Usually once it works ok it stays fine.

Ted,
There was a thread a few weeks back talking about the possibility of running
windows with a switch in a config file (don't remember which) which adjusted
the way the dual processor worked, and it seemed to show promise. There were
two switches. One turned the second core off, which would reduce power (but
you could have multiple boots so other apps could still use the second core),
and the other option switched the processor usage so that any single application
would only use a single processor, hence Paris would run under one of the
processors, but Windows itself could make use of the other, or other apps
you were running (eg if you had Cubase running as well, or Wavelab).
It seemed to show promise. I expect you'll be able to get things working
if you can find the thread. ;o) You'll lose some power, but I'm guessing
you don't need all that power for Paris anyhow.

If you have more than one Control 16, remove all but one. I understand that
aggrevates and accelerates the degradation of stability more quickly. You
might also look backwards at posts about a month, I think there were some
threads on disabling the second core in some way... I'm afraid I did not
keep track of them as I am still on an old but stableAMD1900+, but surely
someone here did.

Not true about dual CPU. I have offered repeatedly on here about my setup
that I ran for years without no problems. However, it was a dual pentium
running on windows 2000. It ran flawlessly except the shut down, but I
lived with that. Brian T. asked everyone what their setup was and it
appeared I was the only one that was running a dual pentium processor, but
others were having issue with the AMD dual. So I know for a fact that dual
pentium work. In fact I am on a super fast pentium 4 now and I still
believe that my older dual pentium was faster on everything... screen writes
(and I am using the same Matrox G-450 video card) and just useage. I'd go
back to the dual pentium but the prices went through the roof on the
motherboards... so I just went with a Pentium 4.
