Jamie,
I recently spec'd a VO system for a friend in the western part of the state
in a similar situation - looking for good quality but not overkill - I'm
going with the TC Konnekt 8 for him as it's pres have gotten great reviews
(haven't heard it yet, so take that for what its' worth - in that price
range it probably is the best of the bunch).
For a mic, the Blue Bluebird is a great mic for VO - nice even, clear
response across the board - smooth highs too which isn't common in sub-$1k
mics.

Jamie, how about the Presonus Eureka? I haven't personally tried
one, but I've noticed some good comments about 'em, so for
voiceover stuff it might be perfect - that way you get a little
comp, a little EQ going for her voice... Eureka & a Bluebird -
under a grand total & she's rockin' on all her v/o work.
Maybe you should see if you can demo that combination???

Hi Jamie,
Did you look into the metric halo stuff?
http://www.mhlabs.com/metric_halo/products/mio/
I use both the 2882 and the ULN2 with a PB (MB pro is on it's way) and I
am very pleased with them.
The ULN2 has very high quality mic pre's and drivers are very stable (Mac
only)
The +DSP version comes with channelstrip and other nice plugins.
The units are buspowerable for use in the field and the MIO mixer has the
record-
panel, an integrated recording software.
And of course, when your wife is not using it, you may hook it up to your
system:)
And one more thing, the guys at metric halo are awesome both in knowledge
and service après vente and you can visit the MIO forum to find a very civilised
recording community to fire any questions you may have. Most of the time
you'll
get an answer from one of the Buchalters, the makers of the Mobile IO.
All in all, a great value.

Thanks Ab and Neil, those are excellent suggestions.
She has a specific project coming up quickly for this setup so she
needed to make her decision today. After considering what she really
needs the gear to do and looking at a list of possibilities, she chose
the TC Konnekt 8 that Dedric mentioned (specs look quite good) along
with a Studio Projects C1. I'm looking forward to hearing them with her
amazing voice. If we don't like the results we can exchange them...

A C1? on female voice? Man, you'd better have a good de-esser
handy.
Seriously - not trying to give you shit about your choice, but
download every free plugin de-esser you can find. I'd bet good
money you will need at least one of 'em.

I have to agree. The C1 just doesn't have the top end for VO without a great
de-esser and EQ to fix it in the mix.
If you have the budget, the Bluebird is a far better mic for female VO -
I've used it for several female and male VO's and never touched a de-esser.
Better than the Rode K2, and maybe even a little sweeter sounding than an
AT4047 (also a good VO mic). The AT3035 is pretty good as well, and a little
less than the Bluebird - and imho, better than the C1, or at least comparing
in that price range.

Thanks guys, we'll see how it does. The C1 was recommended by several
people, including another female VO talent with a long list of national
credits. Thanks for the Bluebird and AT4047 tips.
I've previously recorded her with a Shure KSM32 which sounds good but
does benefit from minor EQ and deessing on her voice.

It's a VST reverb so if your rig can get the latency low enough
& you're running the channel that's in record mode in "monitor"
mode, as well, then yeah you could do that.
I can never get anything down that low latency-wise, however;
so that monitor-mode is useless to me.

If you can route it so that the channel signal through the sequencer is
muted but the reverb return is not, meanwhile monitoring the direct
signal from the i/o box, then any latency in the sequencer would just
act as predelay to the verb.

Update: The C1 didn't cut it. To much sibilance as you predicted. She is
now using a Shure KSM27 (she liked my KSM32 and it sounds similar).
