Hi DJ,
Yes they ain't great. They pretty much work but that is about it. Did
you get the silver colored one with the effects? The black one at least
has more I/O . The 'effects" on the silver one are the worst effects
I've ever heard anywhere. The only stuff I've heard at those price
levels that was except able sound wise are the TC Konnekt boxes.
Glad I didn;'t sell it to you lol.

Chris

Well.......I get it working but it's phasing in Cubase SE at it's lowest
latency settings...sounds like I've got a chorus happening but all onboard
FX are disabled so I DL the latest driver and firmware. the driver has to be
loaded first before the firmware so I do that, the try to update the
firmware and the flash fails..........so now the driver won't load. It's
boxed up and ready to ship back to MF. I always buy chancy stuff like this
from MF because I know I can send it back without getting crossways with a
friend/someone I respect. Also...........the TC M200. don't waste your time.
I got one of these for my friend with the Digi 002 studio. It's like driving
a rattling jalopy. Many of the post are jut pure crap and introduce
unacceptable noise.

I'm thinking about just springing for a FF 400 for Amy. I built her computer
and I know the RME hardware and so I know I can get it working and
configured the way she wants and it will do what she needs. This thing has
some decent preamps, right? All we need is a little songwriters workstation
but it has to be *simple*. Simple is an unbelievable challenge for me. I
just can't seem to achieve *simple*. My Cubase based studio has become a
dual DAW behemouth. A little simpler than my Paris>Cubase setup, but not
much (it is much simpler to use though ;o). With the amount of time I've
wasted with this, I could have just found a FF400 and been 10 miles down the
road by now.

;oP

I assume you meant the TC M300? I was think of getting a TC M350 down the
road.

I'm sure you wouldn't be interested in this, but I thought I'd mention that
I have a M-Audio Quattro, if your interested. It's USB 24bit 96k, four 1/4
trs I/O with MIDI I/O.

Chris,

in an earlier post.

Dewd, I told you to get one of the little Lexi boxes. Are they
great? No. Do they work fne & sound "OK"? Yes.

And now they're on sale:

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Omega/

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Lambda/

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Alpha/

....which probably means discontinuation, but for a simple
audio scratchpad it's unlikely you'll really need support
down the road.

AND YOU GET THE LEXICON PANTHEON REVERB WITH EACH ONE!!! (which
works with ANY version of Cubase, regardless of which interface
you may use).

:D

Hi Aaron,
Those are just repackaged Edirol devices. Very poor driver support. Not
sure why Cakewalk would choose em. Maybe Roland paid them to take em..:)
I don't she would like having to reboot the device every time she either
changes the sample rate or the latency.

Thanks,

OH YEAH! That's right, you want that feature - no, it's a VST
reverb. Sorry, forgot about that.

DJ,
Maybe you want one of those EMU boxes?
I think they do all or most of what you'd need.
I don't own one so I'm not sure.

Hi DJ,
EMU simple = No.
Unless she is Sonar the TC Konnekt8 or 24D is pretty rocking. driver and
chip set wise it works no better or worse than the other units in its
price range. The analog line and MIC-pre sound better than the other in
its price range. The effects on 24D can be used on input monitoring or
as a plug-in. using them on the input monitoring side is easy IMHO.
The effects are from the Powercore and run on hardware DSP.

Another option is the MOTU UltraLite.

http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/

http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/ultralite/

The MOTU stuff is a mature product line and would work. If MIDI is not important,
a Paris system system with a 442 would also work. However, since your already
RME, it's probably the way to go.

Hi James,
yes I forgot about that The ultralight or 8pre would both be nice units.

Or, like I said before, with the M-Audio FireWire 410 or FireWire 1814 he
could use Cubase SX4 and add Pro Tools for under $299.00.

I told you the effects were crap. The mic pre's are not good either.

I'm surprised about the latency and phasing issue though. Mine works perfect
with my little crappy G4 Power Book. Just plug it in and go. Oops, I forgot.
Mac's suck. It's probably just my imagination that it's working. ;>)

Seriously, I guess I've been extremely lucky that I don't have these kinds
of problems. I've always just assumed all the marketing hype was at least a
little true and Mac's really were better at "plug and play". Maybe, like I
say, I've just been lucky (knock wood). Anyway, sorry to hear about the
hassles.

Tony

It's cool, but way over priced IMO, about $1500.00 at list.

You guys keep forgetting - he needs something with a reverb that
can be monitored real-time while tracking.

Remember what he wants: good mic pre, monitor-able reverb, but
tracking quality isn't all that important since he said he'd be
importing those rough tracks for do-overs later.

He basically needs a Radio Shack cassette player fed by a TC
Helicon VoiceWorks.

:)

I've seen a lot of those Zoom H4 field recorders lately. 4 track. Effects.
Offloads to computer. Cheap. ($300) Supposedly easy to use once someone
shows you how.

I'm increasingly convinced that _everyone_ should buy RME gear unless there
is a _very_ good reason to do otherwise. I've been in my hotel room in Bangkok
a lot during the days this week (way to hot to go anywhere), working on tracks
with my crappy $500 Acer laptop and my cardbus RME RPM. It just sits there
and works and doesn't bother me and generally kicks ass in the way that something
that should disappear can kick ass. I sort of regret ever selling any of
my RME gear and if I can stretch the recording budget I'm probably going
to pick up a pair of PCI cards and a pair of Mutlifaces to give myself 16
channels of RME conversion for tracking.

P.S. Bangkok kicks staggering amounts of ass. I have _never_ had food this
good in my life. It's insane. And not just Thai food. It's the best Indian,
Malaysian, Japanese, etc. I order 'tom yam soup' and I get a bowl of heavenly,
slightly curried broth with a half dozen different kinds of seafood, a few
of which I can't even identify. The only drawback is having to see all of
the girls with creepy, ugly old guys and the heat, which I imagine is roughly
the temperature that my room in hell will be.

Coelecanth, no doubt.

Distinct possibility. The 'signature night' of this trip so far was dinner
at about 3 AM with the hip hop DJ I met in a club. He took me, his girlfriend,
and a few friends (all Thais save me, and all young, thin, and oppressively
gorgeous save me) out to some weird, ramshackle place that had 'the best
seafood in Thailand' and I ate stuff that looked pointedly prehistoric. But
it was all just so achingly good that after a while I just went along and
asked dumb questions about how to take the whole critters apart into smaller,
edible pieces. Incredible night.

Hehe!!!..nothing like some good mystery meat at 3:00 AM, eh? I agree about
the RME stuff, BTW. I'm loving mine. Glad I went in this direction though if
I was a 'synthminded" individual, there's no way I would have ever left the
Creamware fold.

;o)
Have fun and be careful.

Hi Thad.. I'm a fan of RME seeing that I own 2 of their audio interfaces,
but to be honest, I'm more of an M-Audio fan. Their drivers are just wickedly
stable and fast.

Say what you want about their old 2496 audiophile card, but that card will
get you thru session for vsti, giga, or tracking.

Their newer cards have new converters that I will pit against any thing on
the market (Audiophile 192, Firewire 1814,410pro-light).

Digidesign made a very smart and wise purchase by adding M-Audio to their
roster. again, their driver support is their strong suit. I'm a big M-Audio
fan..
