I had a couple of 10k Raptors left over from my Paris rig. I figured I'd
RAID'em into a 72G audio drive and use them for tracking. I figured the
Silicon Image controller on this mob would be a good candidate. Bad idea, at
least when it's sharing with UAD-1 cards, even if the UAD-1 cards aren't
processing anything. I've got a couple of NVidia SATA RAID headers on this
mobo as well. I'm using them with no problems on my slave rig. Maybe I'll
just use these Raptors for system drives though. They're both 36G which is
good for system drives, but not much else these days and 7200 RPM ATA 133
drives seem to be working just fine for tracking/mixing.

Once again, it seems I'm a victim of my own bright ideas. (now what happens
if I plug this round thing into this square hole?)

;o)

So now we just need Jessie Jackson to say "Ok, It wasn't the Duke white guys".

Ok, so you thought your new Cubase girlfriend was cheating on you but you
were wrong. You can still have the same love you had before. I think you
need to take Cubase to dinner and a movie tonight.

hehe,
John

Deej, Do I have to do my kb/s/track math for you again to explain what kind
of througput you need for audio recording? ATA 130 is _way_ more than sufficient
for even massive projects. Also, the on board SATA controllers tend to conflict
less with everything (in my experience) than do the other controllers. So,
get a 750GB SATA drive from newegg and track to that. Trust me, when you're
running a 60 track project it'll spend more time chatting up the southbridge
and making South Park jokes than working.

hint...if it turns out to be a "dumbass" move on your part just stop
responding to your own post. eventually even the most ardent will
eventually give up calling you to task.

now go blow up one of those extra balloons.

You read the Cubase forums?!? Are you out of your freaking mind? Check that,
I've seen the picture of your old rig, you are out of your mind. But reading
Cubase forums is what we call a 'net negative' in the finance world. I.e.
while appearing to accomplish something it actually costs the organization
more than is returned.

This forum is much more helpful than the Cubase forum as far as actual
constructive assistance goes. I only go to the Cubase forums if I hit a snag
and need some feedback on whether it is a *feature* or not. Saves me time in
a (so far) unfamiliar world. As luck would have it, in this particular
situation, the *issues* I was having with my RAID controller are similar to
what some on cubase .net are having with the program itself........but their
issues are probably hardware related too. My rig just has so many variables
that when I have a problem, I tend to want to throw a pretty wide net to see
what kind of flotsam I can scour from top to bottom.

Actually, one of the moderators there named Tank, has PM'ed me with helpful
info, though I seldom see any of them help anyone on the forum itself. Can't
blame them though. There are some major wankers over there.
