This was a email I received.
Diane Sawyer on ABC news interviewed the Venezuelan leader Chavez just last
week -- March 2007 He is so dangerous, and you can tell he is thrilled to
be selling oil toAmerica and having a foot on the throat of this country.
He is something else. If you did not hear the interview, the following was
discussed and it is true. They have all this money coming in and the majority
of his own people are living in poverty and he is so rich. He is best of
friends with Castro and Russian leaders. He told Diane Sawyer that he was
friends with all the world leaders, but President Bush is as dumb as a 'donkey'.

NEWS FLASH: Chavez is NOW getting a Russian Weapons Factory built by Putin.
The RUSSIANS are building an AK-47 Kalashnikov Assault Rifle factory in Venezuela,
to give armament support to Communist Rebel groups throughout the Americas.
Chavez NOW has IRANIANS operating his oil refineries in Venezuela for him.
It is likely only a matter of time, if not already, before Chavez has Iranian
built LONG RANGE missiles, with a variety of warhead types aimed at: Guess
Who?
CITGO is NOW in the process of Changing Its Name to PETRO EXPRESS due to
the loss of gasoline sales in the USA due to the recent publicity of ownership
by Chavez of Venezuela.
Every dollar you spend with CITGO or PETRO EXPRESS gasoline will be used
against you, your basic human rights, and your freedoms. He will start wars
here in the Americas that will probably be the death of millions of free
people.

Hugo Chavez is a hero. A man willing to sand up for his counry and not let
a another country (USA) tell him how to run thier commodity.
This is nothing more than tipical US spin machine out to sway puplic opinion
about those leaders that don't drink the US Kool-Aid.. They (Venezuelans)
don't need our aid. They have their own precious commodity.
Wake up people, are we to believe every word coming from our Goverment??

LaMont, have you ever heard of Communism? Maybe you should read up on what
Chavez has been up to lately. Start with the buying of russian Migs, missiles,
tanks etc. It's a military build up in our hemisphere. Then the taking
of oil refineries by military force.

By the way, In 1995 I purchased a brand new Firebird. About a month after
getting the car I got gas at a Citgo station. with in minutes of pulling
out, the engine ceased up. Towed it in to a dealer and found out I had bad
gas. I had the state of Michigan come out and test the gas. 71% was water,
about 8% was solid garbage, and the rest was gas. It took out all of the
fuel injectors and the fuel pump. It did about $1700.00 in damage.
Citgo refused to take any responsibility for their product, and refused
to pay for the damage. They immediately told me that they were not responsible
for their product after it left their refinery. Apparently that was their
standard response for anybody that called them about bad gas. It took about
6 months to get it straitened out. The state of Michigan gave them a choice,
pay for the damages or pay a $25,000.00 fine. The arab gas station owner
had to pay for the damage.
My neighbor later told me that when that gas station would start running
out of gas he would see them put the garden hose down in to their tanks.
So I guess the owner deserved what he got. There were also many reports
on the news of people getting bad gas from Citgo stations all over town.
Needless to say, I never buy gas at Citgo. What a PITA! If you want to
buy your gas from them that's up to you.
When possible I will avoid buying Communist made products. And yes I am
aware of where some of my favorite products are made. I don't like it.

LaMont, my friend. I think you are misguided here. I respect your opinions,
but I wonder if you have ever been up close and personal with a totalitarian
state......socialist or otherwise. I have seen it (Nicaragua during and
after Somoza). Before you become enamoured with Somoza, I suggest you take
some time off and go to Venezuela while you still can travel without a
*state tender* (if this is even still possible) and spend about a month
travelling around down there.

and another thought........just because Chavez echoes your personal opinions
about Bush, does not make him a "liberator". People like Chavez will say
whatever they think you want to hear as long as it suits their

America's appetite for oil is our own problem and we can't blame it on
other countries. We don't own their oil.
The "foot on the throat" is really "feet on the throat" and the feet
belong to OPEC and other oil producers aided by an oil industry that is
more and more consolidated, monolithic and multi-national. But the
responsibility for putting our throat under those feet is largely our own.
In order to get these footprints off of our throat it's not enough to
complain about the governments of other countries, whether they deserve
criticism or not. We need to face up to our own responsibilities and do
something about:
A) Our own oil consumption.
This is key. However you do it, consider using less petroleum. Drive a
more efficient car. Drive less. Go biodiesel (from efficient sources).
Go electric. Ride a bike. Take a bus/train. Walk.
This will help make us less dependent on foreign oil, less manipulable
by terrorist factions, less susceptible to market manipulations and
better able to face the future when oil is harder to come by (oil is not
an infinite resource, google "peak oil"). Reducing our consumption will
also help relieve our shortage of refining capability, which, for a
variety of reasons, we are bumping into pretty hard right now.
Also significant, using less oil will help improve local air quality and
pull back on greenhouse gas emissions.
Win, win.
B) Our own Federal Trade Commission.
If you agree with the GAO that industry consolidation is hurting rather
than helping the consumer at the pump, then something is wrong over at
the FTC. The FTC is our consumer protection watchdog, they oversee and
approves mergers and they enforce anti-trust legislation. Is the fox

C) Our own government.
We have problems using long term planning to avoid situations where our
security is at risk from poor energy policy. This is a failure of
leadership by both major parties.
How do we get better leadership? Is it by electing politicians who
represent multi-national industries? Or is it by electing politicians
who represent their actual constituents?
If you believe in the latter, i.e. "democracy," the election system is
broken on several fronts.
First, the increasing amount of money it takes to get elected means that
most politicians butter their bread from high money sources, because
that's the easy money. K street lobbyists are funneling vast sums of
money to both parties in order to push special interest agendas. This
results in politicians who are beholden to special interest groups for
their jobs. Lobbyists themselves are helping to write new legislation
and are even being appointed to government oversight positions.
This will not be easy to reign in. Possible solutions include:
-Using some amount of the public airwaves for elections without
charge, to make running for office less costly and thus level the
playing field for candidates who don't feed at the lobbyist trough;
-Instant runoff voting so people can vote for their true favorite
candidates without fear of throwing their vote away;
-Full disclosure laws for groups doing political advertising
(including those doing thinly veiled "issue advertising"), so everyone
knows exactly which special interests are behind any disinformation
campaign;
-A responsible fourth estate that shines a bright light on ad
campaigns, showing the funding sources, revealing their interests, and
contrasting any claims with actual facts. We need to balance a special
interest group's right to brazenly lie with the public's need to know
the facts. :^)
-Campaign finance reform. This is an interesting challenge: how to
keep an election from being bought without infringing on "free speech."
Free speech is in quotes because there is some controversy about whether
restricting campaign donations is the same as restricting actual speech.
Second, the election mechanism itself is suspect. A large percentage of
the votes are compiled by computer-based systems that do not keep a
physical record of the vote. There is no way of knowing if the
electronic vote has been hacked, except that 1) we know electronic
voting makes it possible to cheat quickly, undetectably and on a large
scale, and 2) we have a clear history of various parties eagerly
cheating in elections when possible. Draw your own conclusions.
Even with systems that keep a physical, recountable record, it's
important that the ballot of record be the physical representation and
not the electronic representation. The physical representation should be
counted for the first official tally as well as all recounts. It's
exceedingly important that vote tallies are regularly audited using the
physical ballots, with a sufficient percentage of precincts audited to
be very sure that no cheating falls through the cracks.
On the other side of the equation, no party should be allowed to
manipulate the federal system to throw legitimate voters off the rolls
or fail to count any legitimate ballot, provisional or direct. Nor
should dead people vote.

PS. James, you also raised another issue, that of the arms industry, in
which we are a dominant player. I won't go into it here except to note
that one of the objections you raise about Venezuela is that they are
buying from a competitor.

Funny how no one seems to remember the great failed experiment called socialism
(USSR, anyone?) Or better yet, the great failed experiment called facism

Jamie...please do not be such a hatefilled spiteful person...you do not know
one damn thing about me, nor do you have a right to refer to me as ignorant...
FYI, I am a service connected disabled vet - plainly, I gave up the majority
of my mobility in the line of duty, so that others could express themselves
as they wish..
Another FYI, I have been met and interacted with those from the former East
Germany and the former Czechoslavakia, both socialist satellites...and exactly
100% of those people I met from communist/dictatorships thanked the US for
assisting in the enabling of their freedoms...
Sadly, those very people are more grateful for the US than most people living
in it today...
And, from me, my father (highly decorated WW2 and Korean War vet), and my
brother (Vietnam vet) you are welcome. I stand by my words, I stand by my
nation.

Our brilliant politicians had no will for war, it took the Japanese attacking
us to get us involved. They wanted to just stand by and watch the world be
taken over. WE need to thank the veterans for having the will to fight and
win WWII. left to the pacifists we'd all be speaking German, or maybe Russian
As far as the veterans that fought England, they had the will to fight and
be free from tyranny and unfair taxation. At least Americans were willing
to fight for and earn our freedoms, unlike others that are never willing
to fight for freedom.
We owe our vets a debt of gratitude.

The main issue is this: It would be wrong to assume that anyone who
criticizes our government or foreign policy today is akin to Lenin,
Hitler, Honecker, Husák, Saddam or anyone other despot you may want to list.
For example, I'd be interested in any rationale behind the implication
that anyone here is advocating a move in the USA toward Nazism. It's
grand hyperbole to imply it, and it calls into question the motives of
decent people here.
People can disagree in these United States and that doesn't
automatically make them stupid or Nazis. Hopefully we can all talk about
any disagreements or different perspectives and compare facts, and maybe
find common ground and mutual growth.
Everyone sees things from different perspectives which is actually very
useful for those who want to compare and learn, it's not threatening.
BTW, if you're going to rail against particular social systems, we may
want to get some agreed-on definitions down to start with. We live in a
country that combines elements of several systems, so if you're going to
bash any of them, it'd be useful to be specific about exactly what
you're bashing. Generalizations often lead to misunderstandings.
How do you describe our system overall? How do you define socialism? How
do you define fascism? How do you define capitalism? Maybe we should
start with those. If you're interested in discussing it.

Where do you get that assumption? Any statistics behind it? That's a
large and sad accusation to level against the majority of your fellow

So as you stand by our nation along with veterans related to you, me and
everyone here, I have to think you don't really mean to put down the
majority of our citizens with generalized, condescending remarks. I
can't believe you really think we're a nation of mostly ignorant
ingrates or Nazi wannabes.
I can understand how you might think badly of your fellow countrymen on
some days, given the way veterans have been treated here. At times our
treatment of veterans has been shameful. We have not always done right
by veterans, and that's a big issue.
But I think it goes too far to believe that anyone who disagrees with an
assertion is automatically A) unpatriotic or B) unappreciative of the
sacrifice of everyone who has put their lives and passion on the line so
we may have the opportunity to participate in and help improve our
country today.
In fact, a lot of folks are putting their own lives and passion on the
line today, in many ways. Good people working to participate and help
improve our country. And even if they happen to disagree with you or me
on some issues, they have that right. Veterans and non-veterans alike.

same with tme. I had a 88 Izuzu I mark and filled it with some citgo gas/water
and it killed my catalytic converter..
It took a long time for me to buy Citgo gas . But, just because a country
is communist, does that mean they are evil??

DJ, I'm not that narrow minded. Just becasue he (Chavez) rags on Bush doe
snot make me admire him. Like Castro, and many rulers who won;t follow the
US foriegn policy and put their Country first is a leader I admire..
Back in the 60s the US govermen called the Black Panthers a terrosit organization,
it was not.. Then seeked to distroy them just beacause they wanted a better
america for all especialy African Americans..
It hard for most white americans to belive that their country can do no wrong.
It's just that most of us who are non white belive in the US goverment no

No I don't think so at all. the NY Times has published some stuff here (in
time of war) for which Castro (or Chavez, since he is Fidel's running dog
lackey) would have had the editor executed by firing squad.
Personally, I would have just had the editor prosecuted for treason and then

What's wrong wit Communism? I thought you were a Christian? Well anyways,
try freedom!!! When you rule your people with military force and take their
freedoms away It's not a good thing. They will kill anybody that does not
want to go along. He will stay rich while the people live in poverty, that's
the Communist way. He is just another communist dictator. He want's to
arm Communist rebels all over south america. That's not good for anybody,
especially America. That will cause conflicts that a lot of people will
die in, possibly americans. The USA will not just stand by and watch south

Sorry man... gotta have some comedy first here. Bush Doe Snot. I get visuals
of deer boxing glove hunting with Cheney and Dubya standing on the other
side of the deer in question... ok,now that's out of the way and the tone is

This isn't about Bush or who 'rags' him - frankly as a 'white american' that
voted for him, I think he needs some of it for a few things I've seen. On
the other hand: If you think Chavez and Castro are so great, why don't you
move outta our house and into theirs? I'm sure you'd find plenty of
opportunities like recording audio and freedom of speech and religion there.
If you want to be able to admire leaders, why haven't you put more into
getting candidates here in office that you 'can' admire?

I don't have a problem with betterment of African Americans. The BP's
started out as a very good idea in a time when black men were under fire,
and considered lesser men merited on skin color. As you may well know, I've
worked with some higher profile AA's and it has zero to do with a color as
far as I'm concerned - it's just people, some good some bad. However, you're
going to stand there and tell me splintered BP's never, ever used violence
for their agendas?
Frankly, I think a man's betterment doesn't come from some organization, it
comes from opportunity, skills, education and unfortunately sometimes who
you know. If this was still 1966, I'd agree with your stand but you are
behind the times dude, and there is a lot of racism from every corner based
upon old beliefs. Are you on the positive motion or the negative motion side

I'm not real sure what you're trying to say here, but if I'm reading this
right from your other statements in this and past posts:
For me and those around me in perspective, color has little to nothing to do
with it unless the race card is being pulled out for political leverage. An
that ain't usually the 'white american'. Can we say Louisiana and Hurricane
ever again in the same sentence w/o the race card coming up? I find this bad
form and offensive LaMont, and telling of how you'd box in Deej into a
catagory on auto pilot. Be careful of blanket statements like that, it sure
doesn't shine a positive light man.
Kick back, have a glass of tea and think about why you are making this

Thanks LaMont.
It's always easy to blame other countries. Other countries aren't beyond
criticism, and finger pointing makes for fun discussions.
But clearly we need to start by facing up to our own significant
responsibilities.
We are, as Bush recently recognized, addicted to oil. Has that sunk in?
Hello, America, we are addicted. Addicts, the lot of us. To a resource
that others control. To a resource that is finite, it will not last
forever.
First and foremost, we need to curb our unhealthy oil dependency with
smart conservation and a determined move toward other viable energy
sources. NOW.
As we get serious about that, we will have more and better options for a
rational foreign policy. Since we want to be a shining example for
others to follow, this is a great path for us to walk.
We have a lot of work to do.
