Mac users -- need 9.2.2 boot disk [message #92432]

Well, I tried to set up the 867MHz Quicksilver I just got with OS9 so
I can make it my mobile Paris rig.

Only, it appears that the damn thing will only boot from the OS9.2.2
cd that shipped with it, not retail 9.04 or 9.1 or anything else.

I got the G4 from work, and the only G4 discs I could find were the
original Panther dvd and the hardware test.

Anyone got a copy of the 9.2.2 boot cd they'd be willing to make me a
copy of?

I've got less than a month to get this thing all racked up and tested,
and tonight was more than a little irritating.

Call Apple and tell them you have lost the original install discs. At one
time they would send out new disc for free. I don't know if that's the case
these days, but it's worth a try. It may cost you something now.

I'm fairly certain that w/ OS 9 you can just copy the system folder to your
boot drive and create an OS boot option. I have an 867 mHz G4 w/ OS 9.2.2
installed. I know I have my install disks somewhere but I'll bet I can just
copy my system folder to a CD or DVD and send it to you. Email me if you
want to give it a shot.

Yes- this should work. Just drag the system folder from the boot disc you
currently
have, into your HD, then under control panel>startup disc, select it as
the default
boot source

OK, here's what I've done so far. G4 has two drives in it - I installed
Tiger on one. (Thinking that gives me some flexibility if I want to try
other recording stuff later).

I plan on installing 9.2.2 to the second drive, then using the "option" key
on boot to determine which way it boots.

I'm not sure that just initializing the second drive and copying the system
folder onto it will allow that to happen -- but I could always try it. I'll
just grab the system folder off my Paris rig in the basement.

However, just in case, I could still use a copy of a 9.2 boot disk. I'll
try to get ahold of Ted today.

It should work fine. Just dragging it over to a new disc automatically copies
it
there.

Well, dip me in batter and call me a corn dog!!

It was weird. I copied over the system,preferences, utilities, and
apps folder from my Paris G4 onto a fw drive.

Then I intialized the Paris boot drive, making sure to install OS9
drivers.

Then, copied said folders onto the newly-initialized drive.

Rebooted, holding down the option key.

Oddly enough, it showed not only the OSX drive, but the FW drive as
boot options, not the internal OS9 drive.

So, I let it boot from FW. Then went into the startup disk panel,
chose the internal Paris drive's System folder, restarted with the
Option key, and this time, the internal drive showed up and allowed me
to boot.

Now, I'll install Paris and a few utiilities.

Damn! That was fun. And edumacational, too!!!
