Hi.
Following on from my failure to get an adat and Paris to sync,
I decided to try Cubase SX slaved to the ADAT. (via the adat sync on
my Frontier Dakota.
I have managed to get a Cubase project with all tracks sample accurate. (However,
start and end points differ between the two passes.)
I edited the start points and moved all regions to zero, in the
hope of exporting each track as a new file, retaining timing integrity.
My client wants to bring these files into PT.
Now... For the life of me, I can see no way of rendering these
into new files in Cubase. (SX3).
Samplitude does it, Paris does it, but am I screwed with cubase?
Perhaps I'm having a senior day, but I've spent a couple of
hours trying to find the magic command.
Surely Steinberg incorporated this feature somewhere??
Any light on the subject would be greatly appreciated at this point,
otherwise I'm going bowling....

hey kim
is it not called 'bounce' in cubase. I can't remember last time I did it
and I'm not in front of the machine right now, but it was definitely a
'bounce command'. The pain in the ass for me was that you have to do each
track individually (although it wasnt sx3, so maybe not?)

Cubase only renders one file at a time.

You can select as many tracks as you want, then right click and I in one of
the menus you should see a "bounce selection". You don't have to do one
track at a time in Cubase SX4 ... unsure about SX3.

Hi Kim,
I've done a lot of ADAT transfers with my ADAT LX20 and PARIS.
Here's the skinny:
You have to be using Windows 9x/ME.
You should set the master PARIS clock to 48k even if your tapes are at 44.1.
What the heck - they transfer quicker this way, and PARIS is happier.
If the drive doesn't respond to the playback command, turn it on and off
again until it does.
It's a pain, but it does eventually work.

I'm running XP, so I'm stuck with transferring to Cubase, and
rendering the files one by one.
It's gonna be a long day.

BTW, why would cubase respond to start/stop commands via adat sync,
but not the ADAT XT's?

Tried that, but all it does is make copies of the original files.
It doesn't create new ones that reflect any edits.

Yep. To export edited files you have to either do them one at a time or use
a third party utility. LaMont turned me on to a program recently called Tape
It 2 by Silverspike.

Set it up as an insert on every channel of on a Cubase Template so it is
always there for what you need. It hardly uses any resources. It's a bit
tedious compared to Paris, but it does a great job.

Thanks David.
I would try it, but I had to butcher my Cubase PC to get my Paris box up
and running again.
For some reason the mobo running paris fried itself.
(K8NS ultra). Lucky I bought two of these boards, and was able
to rebuild the paris box in about an hour before a session, without hiccups.
I ended up hiring a second ADAT, and archived the multitracks
in one pass.
