I have one and have used it on a variety of inputs. Loved the brick
wall for taking in rap and some vocalists. Seemed to be a little
sterile for acoutic guitar for my tastes (like it a little warmer).

Probably the best preamp I've ever used on an AEA R84. It just gets out
of the way, lets that beautiful silky top end of the mic do it's magic and
has plenty of gain. The comp/limiter is totally transparent (unless horrendously
abused). I'm still kicking myself for selling one that I had. I thought I
would like my Focusrite RED7 better so I decided the P1 was redundant. I
missed it almost the minute it left here. I think the P1 was equal or superior
to the RED7 when paired with an AEA R84 or an SE R-1 (the two ribbons I have
used it with). I've got one of the old, much sought after RED7's with the
input tranny that are selling for around $4k nowadays and it's a nice one,
so this is some high praise. I do agree with you about the P1's lack of personality
thought. I guess that's what makes it right for some mics though. You hear
the signal and mic and not the pre.

The next preamp I buy will probaly be another P1 to replace the one I sold.

I've read several very positive reviews of this unit, and I think DJ had
one a while back but sold it. Since he seems to have quite a nice collection
of pres and compressors, that doesn't mean it is not a good unit. You might
ask him about it.
