Anybody know what the 'big deal' is? I think it was Dedric who posted the
link to the teaser on their web site. I'm really looking hard at a control
surface upgrade, and since that's bonus season I might have a little extra
dosh kicking around. Wondering if anyone knows anything, or suspects anything
that might be informative.

Interesting, Dedric. To put together a really usable Mackie control rig is
$3.5k. That will cover the main unit, two extra fader banks, and the rotary
controller. If Euphonix can do something better for a couple of grand more,
then I'm all for it and I'll hold off a bit before buying anything. That
said, it MUST work with Live for me to have any interest, that's a deal breaker
for me.

Guys, the Mackie Controller s nver did "It" for me. They just looked and felt
too clinical and dare I say cheesy. And, these new white/meets black paint
jobs, just makes them llok like toys. Even expanded, they Lack the Wow!!
factor.
No, we need the styling of Digi's new C|24 with and better.

I agree with you that the wow factor is nearly zero. But it's a Mackie, what
do you expect? I think in terms of usefulness it's awfully close to the C|24,
and most importantly you're not roped into one application for it to control.
And it's about half the cost, so I think that's a reasonable trade.

I'll take the wow factor of anything Euphonix to Digi controllers - which
works out well
since Euphonix is the one making it (or maybe making something we think is a
controller). :-)

Scroll down through the thread. Looks nice - maybe a bit wider than a
Mackie Control, but not as deep - price seems decent, unless you have to buy
Eucon as well ($2k extra). It would fit really well with my setup. Might
have to relegate the Mackie control
to an edit suite. ;-)

Euphonix found out about the pics and had them all removed, well except for
the ones on my desktop. ;-)
Excellent looking controllers - the controller has 4 faders with
switches/knobs for each channel, as well as others, a touch screen, jog
wheel surrounded by buttons. Also an 8-fader unit as well for expansion.
Very nice looking units. Looking forward to the release in January.

But, after loking at those pics, it seems that they are still after the Post
market. It does seems that you wil be able to add 8 or 4 fader pacs at

If you need a "big" console to impress clients, that's one thing and there
are a lot of consoles that fit that bill.
But if you need an ergonomic, fast workflow, Euphonix has been doing that
pretty well so far. The new console with the touch screen (which is likely
multimode) would allow you to assign key commands, macros, etc to make
editing, navigating, plugins, etc much much faster. Yes, that may be more
important for post, but I've found key commands and macros more of a
workflow enhancement than a lot of faders.
That's what I'm after. I already have a desk system design in mind to
accomodate this, and fit perfectly for composing.
Also note, there seem to be LCD displays above every fader. Chain the two
units for 12 faders - probably similar to MCU in that you can move banks,
maybe even more easily - we'll have to wait and see.
I don't think their point is to compete with a Harrison, SSL, or Neve
console (the Sys5 is there for that market), but for smaller studios, edit
suites, post, composing, etc, it's perfect. Also note that the market is
changing - many people are starting to question the "big is better" mindset
when you don't end up with a better product just because you have more
faders in front of you that you are either going to automate, or hire an
assistant or two to run manually with you.
I'm not the only one seeing a change in the market - I think Euphonix is
filling a gap that will soon begin to define the fringes as well.

Hey Dedric, I 100 agree with your post below. This new controller and even
the MC-5 are wonderful products and does fit the need for the new studio..
It's funny, I made that decision to go small back in 1998 with paris and
C-16's..Liek you , I told my wife that this was the future and that I could
make competive mixes with the PAris setup and did not need the big fader
look.
But, In this world of PT LEs, Cubase, Sonar home setups, even in the competitive
advettising market, I've learned that the the over the top racks and faders
get's you work along with quality of course.
I just got a job to mox a alt rock bands single. They cut the tracks at their
home with Korg 32 track unit..They did a really job, but that unit lacked
the tools to make sound like a finished (radio-ready) record. The drummer
is a really good friend of mine and had been referring me. Eventually, he
brought them to the studio They immedialty feel in love with the Soundcraft
Ghost console(56 channels) and all of the racked gear..NOTE:
The board is hardwired to a Alesis HD24 with aot of outboard gear. My co-studio
owner cuz uses that that recoding setup..I have PAris & Nuendo jacked in
via M-Audio Pro Fire Light Bridge..Light-piped into the Alesis HD24(used
as a converted-really nice..very underated converter..)
So I have 32 from the board (Nuendo) to mix...BUT!! Usually onlu summ to
2 tracks...:)
So, the customers are impressed with all the lights and faders..
I need the system5(ish) look and fuctionality..Maybe the Tascam DM4800 is
for me..
