It does look like a serious winner. Hating that I'll be waing for PC
support, but it
will be worth it. Another really sweet feature is having it auto switch
between
apps depending on what's in focus, and have the custom switchs, setups
follow.
Still curious as to whether the soft switches can be configured into
different sets or
group, to be recalled depending on workflow within a single app (e.g. and
"edit" bank,
a "midi edit" bank, "global" bank, etc) so you aren't limited to 12 custom
key commands and macros.

I should have looked through the online walkthrough before my last post - it
gets even better:
12 assignable soft keys below the touch screen
24 soft keys in the screen, configured in pages, customizable for each app.
Nice. Really nice.

Thanks for the thought. Things are going reasonably well. It took me a
while to get things spec'd out. The big player in the motor fader market is
Penny & Giles, but they want $85 each for their faders, in quantities of
100. Ouch... On the other hand, I can get the Alps fader (same one I think
is used in the Euphonix controller) for about $10 each in quantity. Much
better, even though they're only rated for about 1/10th of the duty cycle of
the P&G. On top of that, I got free samples from Alps to do development
with, and the P&G distributer wanted $100 each!
I've already got a dual 2x40 LCD display with 16 rotary encoders ("endless
knobs") that I designed for the MBmatrixSEQ and MB-808 projects, so I'm
leveraging that design for this. Check out:

for the 3D mock ups I did of them. I'm waiting for the metal parts to be
made - as soon as I have all the parts together I'll be able to post real
pictures. I'm also working on wooden cases for the various projects - you

panels for this controller. (I've been making all kinds of wood side panels
lately - I even have them for the C-16 if anybody is interested...) ;)
The other part of this project is interfacing with PARIS - I have a serial
port board set up with a microcontroller and an LCD that displays commands
as they are received from the EDS-1000 card. Next step will be to connect
all these different parts together...

Thad - I guess you saw it has support for Live (and Reason and many
others) - pretty cool.
I think we'll all be in love with these things (once PC support arrives for
PC users at least - word is April from a
Euphonix rep). It appears you can use the touch screen to control
channels - including rec arm,
mute/solo, plugins, etc.
I'm also wondering if you can hard assign a fader to, for example, the
master bus
and only bank switch the remaining faders - that would be sweet, and not out
of the question
given Euphonix' attention to flexible functionality.

Master fader: That's how Digi's controllers work. Hard assign per session.
Stays put until you tell it somethings different.
Being that the Euphonix folks are way mopre smarter than the Digi folks,
I'm sure they ironed that out..

That's my thinking. The four faders on the control are for a couple of groups
and the master fader and then I can bank through with the other sixteen.
Or maybe better yet, the control has the master fader and I select the other
three so I write automation with them (I'm not good enough to write more
than two or maybe three channels simultaneously anyway) and I can bank through
the other sixteen. For me a 32 track project is on the largish side, though
I do use a lot of groups and f/x. But still, if I had the setup I'm thinking
of, 32 tracks, 16 groups, and 16 f/x in Live/SX (that switch with focus on
the app), well, that'd be dreamy.
Here's hoping they get their PC stuff together.

Count me in for three when the design is ready.
Paris/Cubase here. Moving faders will be an
unbelievable achievement!
Between Mike Audet (plug developement), Dimitrios
(new techniques & ADC), Kim (this newsgroup) and yourself,
Paris will live on into the next decade with a little help from
another DAW.
