I've just picked up a cheap P4 motherboard and processor to upgrade my Paris
rig yet no matter what I try I haven't been able to get Paris to start up.
I get
"Unhandled eception: c00000005
At address: 003897c1"
The board is an Asus P4P800-E with a P4 3.0ghz. The EDS cards are not sharing
IRQ's with any devices. I have a SCSI card running the hard drives and a
G450 video card. Anyone have any clues how to get this POS to run .. it would
be greatly appreciated.

issues when shifting windows across the four screens.
Playback would stop).
Can't understand why you would want to use SCSI, though.
Do yourself a favour... pull the drives and card, and buy yourself a
7200rpm IDE drive. Any cheap-ass 7200rpm drive
for around 50 bucks would give you enough throughput for 64 tracks.

Thanks a bunch for that. which Invidia card did/do you use?
re: the scsi, I guess I'm just old fashioned and the scsi card and drives
didn't cost me anything and having 10, 15k drives makes me feel hi-tech!
5 year old drives running on a 8 year ols system ..real hi-tech!!!

Hi Warren.
Still usind a pair of old dual output NVS280 Quadro's.
They are only 64mb, but are perfectly adequate for anything
but modern gaming.
Others here are using newer cards with no problem, but I
don't recall the model numbers.

another day, another fresh install, change of PCI position for the scsi card,
hyperthreading disabled and still no luck getting Paris to run .. same "unhandled
exception" error.
I'm running out of ideas fast .. I really don't want to ditch my scsi drives
as I have 4 or 5 drives which I use for backup and remember doing comparisons
with ide when I first got scsi drives and felt they performed significantly
better (maybe in my head) Do I just stick with my working dinosaur PIII?
the whole thing is driving me nuts and I've never had major issues with Paris
before in 7 years of using it .. so much for my cheap and easy upgrade.
Any further wisdom or light bulbs would sure improve my weekend.

Thanks for that, I haven't tried any of those options. I've been doing fresh
installs each time so the only plugins installed are the default Paris ones
so, unlikely?
I'll give your suggestions a try and see what happens, after that I've run
out of options. I do have another version of XP I will try not that I see
that making any difference.

only one EDS at a time, and make SURE in the BIOS that it is not sharing an
IRQ with anything else. Kill stuff like USB, modem, COM ports, LPT port.
Strip it down to the absolute bare necessities. Check the hardware list once
you've done this to make sure again that there is no IRQ sharing. if it is,
move the EDS to another PCI slot.
Also, when you install Paris, make it go to C:\Paris and also when putting
the XP drivers in make sure they do the same... by default they do NOT. Pay
close attention to this.

Hi Aaron,
I think you are on to something with the effects update installing into the
wrong directory. The weirdest part of this is that it is an unhandled exception,
not an error 1/1, which suggests that it is not an IRQ issue.
The only time I've seen that is with a bad effect.
It could be a direct X issue, too, even if there are no audio dx plugins
installed because video apps and drivers install dx stuff, too.
Anyway, I hope this gets solved soon.

If the DX plugs have a rogue, something like AnalogX's DX manager might cure
that. I know Vegas installed (as well as cakewalk/sonar, nero, Ulead and a
few other apps) some pretty Paris-unfriendly DX stuff when I was trying to
multiapp my Paris machine at one point.

Aaron,
Have disabled everything in the bios and the EDS cards are not sharing IRQ's.
Different XP .. as you can see I'm at the clutchting at straws stage. I did
install to the default folder - Program Files\EMU etc so, I will give that
a go.

Paris is known to be less stable the longer the path name in the install...
for instance
C:\Paris
is more stable than
C:\Program Files\Paris

Jeff,
No, that is probably the only thing I haven't tried. I have just spent another
whole day with countless fresh XP installs every time I try something new.
I even removed my SCSI card and drives today installing on an IDE drive with
the same "unhandled exception" message. Is it likely that a default project
could cause this? Basically I'm baffled and am at the point where I think
I should have just stuck with my crappy old PIII, the thing works and with
a reformat is as stable as they come.

Hi Warren.
Just to satisfy my curiosity, and assist the process of elimination,
Download and execute this little app:
http://www.freewarefiles.com/MemTest_program_20030.html
It is a memory tester, and runs by itself, without an install.
I recently had issues with a friend's PC, wjich was behaving strangely, and
Memtest spotted the incompatible RAM almost immediately.
Worth a try for the little time it takes.

Kim,
I have thought that it may be a RAM issue, the only thing I've done is move
the RAM to different slots but didn't go as far as use one chip at a time,
I guess it's going to be a case of being ultra methodical. I guess I was
under the impression that XP was fairly fussy with RAM and I would have noticed
an issue during install. Thanks for the link, I shall give it a go.
