Hi folks,

I can't find the specs in the MEC booklet. What is the MEC wattage draw?
15w?, 50s?, 100w?, more?

I'm replacing my old UPS and I've calculated 500w for the computer, (500w
PwrSpply), 75w each for two monitors, 15w for the Big Ben, 15w for the
Benchmark DAC. So that'll take me up near 700w full draw on a battery back
up. If I just surge the BB and DAC, the system still draws 650w. So,
anybody know what's the MEC draw?

Wouldn't it matter what expansion cards are in it as well?

I don't know the answer. I've got two 8-ins in the MEC. That's it.

well, I want to say even my old Radio Shack DVM has a amperage mode in it
and it's probably 20 years old, maybe more - I'd have to look to be 100% on
that.... Surely that's commonplace today and you have a electrician/project
builder buddy locally that could help you out?

Even if not so, this cheapy does up to 10 amps.. I'd think that would cover
your measurement needs? It's only $30.

A 500W computer supply will not draw 500W from the wall... maybe 50 -
75W. I would estimate the MEC with a few cards at about the same... 50
- 75W. To give you an idea... I am running the following:

1 - DM2000
2 - 19"LCD
2 - JBL LSR6328
1 - JBL LSR6312
2 - REDD47 pre
1 - Avalon 737sp
2 - Ampex MX10
1 - Presonus ADL-600
1 - Focusrite ISA428
1 - Cental station
1 - Rosendahl Nanoclock
1 - Rosendahl WIF
2 - Rack mount computers (1 for Paris with 2 - C16)
1 - 13sp Magma 1/2 full
2 - MEC's 1/2 full of cards
1 - Crown D40 amp

*ALL* off of *ONE* 15A circuit = less than 1500W.

I think you will be fine with a 750W UPS... but just to be safe, get the
largest you can comfortably afford. The larger unit will give you more
time to shut things down in the event of a power failure.

Thanks Dave. I just picked up the APC BX1500LCD model at Fry's. Normally
$199 but it has a $30 rebate, so it's price is $170. It can handle 865 watts
(full draw) for 4 minutes. I should be good to go. That's pretty good since
my former APC UPS was a 650 model and had a 400 watt capability. It cost
me $230 back then. Wayne
