Just looking at the horrifying stories of the fires
down under and wondering how our Australian paris
brothers are faring... My daughters friends family
has relatives in the area and are awaiting news.

Yes, Martin is correct.
I'm in Melbourne's Northern Suburbs, and the worst of the fires are probably
60km or so north east of my house. The fires are in forest areas however,
and I'm well into the suburbs, so there's no real danger here. I'm surprised
the air hasn't smelled of smoke at all however.
The good news is that it's been much cooler over the past 40 hours or so,
with a touch of light rain yesterday, so with any luck things will be brought
under control.

Sure did.
The advise they were giving, and up till now has been good advice, was to
evacuate early or stay in your house once it was properly prepared.
Trouble was, it all moved SO quickly that no-one had a chance in hell of
doing anything, and so tried to escape in their cars at the last minute.
It was pitch black, (no sun due to the smoke), and a lot of cars collided
with others or trees fell on them, and they were engulfed within a matter of
minutes/seconds.
To this minute they are still finding cars up little side roads, and in
communities that they haven't been able to get to until now.
Apparently it may be weeks before they find all the bodies, let alone
identify them.
Absolutely disastrous..

I'm OK in Sydney, we've just had a week and a bit of heavy rain, and more to
come, but Victoria is still looking bad.
They caught 1 guy that apparently lit a fire that killed 21 people,
hopefully they'll do the right thing to him.!!!
