Ryzen and PARIS [message #110121]

I bought a Ryzen based system with a PCI card to use with PARIS, and it does not work. There's something wrong with the PCIe/PCI implementation. I spent days debugging it, but it's not a driver problem as far as I can tell. The behaviour is the same using the Virtua Via chassis, a Magma PCI-PCI chassis, and plugging an EDS card directly onto the board. There is no blue screen. The system just restarts when the driver writes to the memory on the card. It doesn't restart on the first write, but after several. I have a ticket in with ASUS, but I'm not holding my breath.

I found lots of other posts online that documented people having trouble using the PCIe slots on Ryzen systems, including UAD2 cards. It looks to me like the PCIe implementation is just not quite right.

Has anyone else got a Ryzen based system working with PARIS?

I've ordered one of these:

I should know in a week if it's going to work. I expect that it will.

After I order the B460 board, I found this:

I got the Intel Core i5 10400 CPU installed on the B460 motherboard, and PARIS is working great under Windows 11. I haven't done a big stress test yet, but everything looks good.

I'm using Windows 11 Education edition, but I wouldn't expect the version to matter.

I b ought it NOS from China, and a Core I5 8500 processor for my new build.

Thanks everyone!
I am still struggling with costs vs what will work solidly
I am quite frustrated about which direction to take before forking out.
I still lean towards the ADEK company, which will make a custom 4 PCI slot MB.
but it's pricey, like a $1700 complete system with great hardware specs, but no chassis
which I already have a rack-mount one. I also have an SBS PCI expansion rack, but like this post is centered on,
I'm leary of whether to use that.

That looks like a great find, Kim. Three PCI slots on a modern motherboard is unheard of.

This is the one that I wish I had bought. I basically have the mini ATX version of it, and I am super happy with it.

It only has two memory slots, so maxes out at 32GB of DDR4 RAM. Also, requires a 7th or 8th generation processor. It won't do 9th or beyond. Still... a good option for three EDS cards without an external chassis.
I will report on my build when I get to it.
