. . . had it been a real emergency, etc

OK, I don't normally do this, but damn it, this song is driving me crazy
and I need some opinions . . .

I'm linking a demo of a song from the new CD project. It's a weird
little ditty and I just wanna know what people think and also if anyone can
tell me what the hell kind of music this is. Or maybe that doesn't matter.
Who cares about categories anyway?

Remember, it's just a quick demo, so excuse the midi drums and the raspy
scratch vocal. :)

to stream:
http://www.sarahtonin.com/playlist/Dream%20demo.m3u

or to download
http://www.sarahtonin.com/music/Dream%20demo.mp3

Thanks for listening,

:D ok, was just teasing there. Actually I think I'd describe it
as eclectic-electric-folk. There was one part in there that had
kind of Tori Amos vibe, but it's still more folk-oriented than
that, I guess.

But it DOES have that sort of Acid-Era vibe to it... reminds me
of something from that period - err... if i could... only...
remember... what.

Melanie. Seriously - reminds me of her stuff!

:)

Neil (who was, fortunately, still too young to be dropping tabs
back then)

Sarah,

Your voice reminds me so much of Grace Slick sometimes. I like the song and
the mix/production.......it sounds somewhat "broadway musical'ish" to
me.........perhaps it could be Rogers & Sarastein.

Put me on the list for a copy of the CD.

Oh jeez, Deej has gone metrosexual on us...

heh

Sarah, I would call it electro-folk and it has Beatle-esque towards the end.
I would arrange it to support the vocal melody more strongly, but I like
it.

take care

Reminds me of a mix between 70's Alice Cooper and Melanie.
I like it :)

So, when did you start dropping tabs then? :) Hey, I was too young then,
too. I think I was just under the influence of those who were under the
influence. Well, except for Frank Zappa, who claimed to be against drugs.

Anyways, thanks for the the input and the flattering comparisons. I
wouldn't have thought of Melanie, but I went and listened to some, and I can
see it.

Rock on,

S

Funny you should say "musical'ish," because sometimes when people ask "what
kind of music is it?" I say something like "quasi-psychedelic jazzy
folk-rock show tunes."

As far as the "metrosexual" thing goes, I never bothered to ask anyone what
that means. Being a nurse doesn't help except that I don't think
metrosexuals are the ones showing up in the ER with strange objects lodged
in their rectums. :)

Oh Lord... my college roomie is an MD and the stories, oh the stories..

I get up in the morning and design stuff, and he gets up and uses
tools to extract objects in the ER...

But hey, that's why he gets the big bucks, right?

Hmmm...........wow!!...so that really is a "word". I thought you were making
it up. I guess I'm totally out of touch with this stuff. I do sometimes
exhibit a penchant for neatness but you'll not be finding any foriegn
objects in any of my orfices.

That's not really part of the gig...

Carrying a man-bag around, having a 75.00 hair cut, being
really neat and well-groomed, hang around with gay guys,
dress to the nines, etc etc but sleeping with women only...

Metrosexual...

BTW, I fit about half of those!

shhh, don't tell my wife...

Hmmm..letsee.......no man bag, though my wife has encouraged this because
when we go places I'm always needing her to put this or that into her purse
because it's too cumbersome to put in my pocket. I mean, isn't this why men
get married???, so they will have someone to carry their pursees for
them???...sheesh!!!!

$75.00 hair cut???........I buzz myself with horse clippers about once a
month (not kidding)

Neat and well groomed???.....humm, I'm usually toting around some horse
manure and dog slobber somewhere on my person and I wear gimme caps
incessantly because the solar radiation up here will fry the skin off a
skinhead in 30 minutes. I'm constantly climbing over barbed wire fences so I
buy my clothes at WalMart. I don't really like Walmart.............in fact I
hate Walmart, but I need cheap, disposable clothes.

Sleeping with women........well........yeah, I do ascribe to this
wholeheartedly but I woke up this morning sandwiched between two 160lb dogs
who were using me for a heating pad. It's getting cold here at night these
days.

Sarah-

This sounds 100% like a Saratonin tune. Like nothing else.

Kinda like Macle sounds 100% like Macle.

It's a rare gift to sound completely original and unique and authentic at
the same time. I love it.

Oh, yeah. I've heard that style before. It's called Caterwaltz. All the
rave in Monaco this season. Major influence: The Beatles.

I really enjoyed the unexpected twists and turns in the verse, and when
the chorus kicked in I was on a Merry Go Round.

Your music is so much fun. Thanks for sharing.

Huh. I played a few shows with Melanie in the '80s. I actually
completely forgot about those gigs until you mentioned her. Anyway I can
sort of see that comaprison.

Hey what's up with Macle. He posted some brilliant music to the site
back in the day. I thought he would have won a Grammy by now. His shit
sounded so good I was jealous.

I Googled and here is a Macle tune for those who remember him.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program: Sarah, you rock!

Thank you everybody for your responses. I wasn't merely fishing for
compliments, but it's always nice to get them. I was hoping for Christmas,
but I figure it's gonna be another spring release (the new CD).

Hugs,

Sarah

Set me on the list to buy, but now I want it signed;-)
I love the cut too but my "old" ears here seems to wish a little bit
(1 to 1.5db) higher vocal, so the guitar isn't dominating too much:-)

If the Beatles had just started, this is what they'd be doing.

Suggest calliope on the 8th notes motif bits.

Fear not, min liten Norsk venn . . . this is only a demo. The whole thing
will be re-recorded with all my young musical slaves, er . . . friends, with
my amazing coproducer at the controls.
