Now that I've got my head wrapped around Totalmix (a big deal), I'm really
getting some pretty major satisfaction out of Cubase SX. Everything just
works and no matter how outside the box and "unnatural" I get with this, it
just sorta' sits back, gives me a smartass look and says "c'mon
asshole....is that all you've got?" Get yourself a MADI card if you want a
lot of I/O. I'm using a MADI, a Multiface and an AES32 and I've never been
happier......really. It's a downright enjoyable experience sitting down to
mix.My heart is no longer in my throat every time I boot up wondering if
some workaround I've had to employ is going to take the system down or
something.

The sheer functionality and flexibility of this program is such a breath of
fresh air and I think it sounds very very good. I'm not even using my tape
emulator a lot of the time now. You just have to learn how to gainstage it.
Paris will spoil you in this respect. We all know that, but it's not that
hard to get some major "PHAT" out of Cubase and the tools available to do
that and the way they can be implemented is like a dream come true. Things
like clicking on an external processor and having the program automatically
calculate and compensate for the latency is something I doubt I'll ever take
for granted. You do need an external mixer of some sort for real time
monitoring if you're using more than one RME audio card, but other than
that, it's sweet....and easy..........and fast......and powerful........and
stable.....blah blah........

I'm not trying to slag the Paris system. I'm still amazed by how ahead of
it's time it still is, but I can definitely recommend Cubase 4 with the
right hardware. Chris Ludwig really was a godsend when I was working out my
componentry/compaibility situation and what I've got here is more stable
than my Paris rig ever was.
