Hi Charles,
It's been suggested that the 98 driver somehow handles clipping differently
that the XP driver. I haven't done a scientific comparison, but I think
that I've noticed that in Windows 98, if I turn up the gain on a channel
until it's clipping, I get a smoother, fuller, more pleasant distortion than
under xp.
Of course, until doing some careful comparisons, it could just be in my head.

When I was running XP, I noticed something which I perceived to be different
from the sound I heard when using ME. Sounded more *contemporary*. I guess
contemporary would mean more-like-digital, less-like-analog with the
difference being in the upper mids. Around the same time though I was
experimenting with using a Benchmark DAC-1 and an external WC. I know these
made a difference. there was a transitional period when I was running a dual
boot system with XP and ME. I actually didn't find that running Paris on XP
was a problem or sounded bad. I liked it and if I would have been able to
use more than one ADAT module per MEC, I would have probablyu stayed with
XP.........but I know that when I went back to ME full time, it was like
putting on a pair of old comfortable slippers. Not sure why, but it was.
