The other day I posted about my bounces having literally millions of errors
showing up in Wavelab. They were inaudible but it was bothering the hell out
of me that they were there. Well, I just ripped some commercial CD tracks
(New Favorite-Allison Krause and Wide Open Spaces-Dixie Chicks) and ran the
same analysis on them. They are the same. Millions of (inaudible errors)
digital errors. Also, the click detection shows as many or more of these
than my mixes do. I was thinking my ears might be going south on me and that
my mix method using Cubase -into-Paris whil'st insanely clocked was creating
a mess that I just wasn't hearing but that would be rejected if I ever sent
a mix out of here to a third party mastering house. Well, if anything, my
mixes are the same or less error prone than the ones I'm seeing here.

Just another reason to trust the ears, not the eyes...............

I totally agree, it's always better to mix with your ears. Somebody recently
in EQ suggested closing your eyes or hiding your computer monitor and mixing
with your ears.

Sometimes I have to engineer and play at the same time.
I hate it!

One thing that really helps is to set markers, and then turn off
the monitor. I simply listen and play better with the screen
off.

I use my hands and fingers, I find it a little difficult to hear a stereo
image when my ear is down on the fader.

that's what i told you when you sent me those cds to listen
to...remember??? i also found your really need to adjust the
parameters to reduce it's sensitivity to these "anomalies".

Deej,
Yup, it's normal. Errors are broken down into levels of seriousness, according
to my engineering guru, with low-impact errors often running this high. CD
players can compensate, though, of course, there's at least a theoretical
hit to fidelity as all of this error correction goes on.
Also, that Alison Krause/Union Station album's beautifully recorded and played,
huh?

I have to look into this further, but my recent mixes (CD masters),done via
lightpipe to Paris, have been checked in PlexTools for errors and have come
up 100% clean.

Well, this is pretty cool then. To get rid of these errors, all I've got to
do is change the default settings in WL.........right?
