I've read through all the posts on this word clock setup but nothing
allows it to happen for me as of yet. The only thing I haven't tried
is terminators on the Mecs. Still can't find 75ohm ones around here.
These made a difference on my system
I have/had a default project set up to 48k,=20
Did you open Paris from the Paris.exe in the C:\\Program =
Files\EMU\Paris folder?
Did you name this project "default project" (no quotes)
Did you save this default project to C:\\Program Files\EMU\Paris =
folder?
Are you opening Paris from this project, not from a desktop shortcut =
to this project?
External Sync in paris.
Sync source should be "word clock", not *external*
I am clocking only 2 Mecs in XP(with Magma) from the Lucid Wordclock =
Generator.
I've turned off the Mecs and turned them back on after the Lucid.
My boot sequence:
1. turn on any external processor that is connected to the WC device =
or that is connected digitally to any MEC
2. turn on WC
3. turn on MECs
4. turn on Paris DAW
5. start Paris
6. navigate to default project .ppj and launch Paris from this.
Both Mecs are getting their own WC with cables of equal length. I =
have added
UseHouseSync=3D1 on the last spot in the Paris.cfg=20
This should be OK
Most often Paris crashes before the projects actually open. It took
me quite a while just to get a default project to accept 48k and =
External Sync without freezing up. It corrupted my default project one =
time.
again...........sync source should be *word clock*, not *external*
Do I need to UseHouseSync=3D1 line with only two Mecs?
No, but this wouldn't hurt.
I think I read that David suggested running the Mecs in series from =
the Lucid.
Sounds odd but I'll try anything to get this to work.
Try setting your sync source to *word clock*
Also, is there supposed to be an EDSTransfer=3D8,8 ? I may have been =
added
this years ago and never removed it. I'll remove it if it's not =
needed.
Tom
I think you're OK there.

Thanks guys,
I'll try again tomorrow after I recover from tonight's gig and
do a quick uke and acoustic guitar jingle.
I was setting Paris to Word Clock. I was booting from the
C:\\Program Files/EMU\Paris\Default Project.ppj
Do the caps matter?!?!
I will remove both EDSTransfer=3D8,8 and
UseHouseSync=3D1
The cables are used but equal length. Look like good quality
and came from Jack Pettit who was having no troubles with them.
I'll keep you informed.
Ultra tired,
Tom

Hey Tom,
How many EDS cards do you have? If you have more than two,
make sure that the second MEC is connected to the highest
"letter" card. Run a short BNC cable from the WC out on the
Master MEC to the WC in on the second MEC. Do not use the
house sync line. Start paris from the *EXE file*, not the
default project (this can be done with a shortcut on the
desktop). Once Paris *finishes* launching (no more flashing
lights on MEC or modules) open a project. When the project
has finished opening, select WC sync in the project window.
Wait for all lights to stop flashing again, then try to
play. If it works (and it should) do a "save as" and rename
so it saves the WC input option. When you go to lauch the
project again, launch Paris itself first, then open the
project from within Paris.
I start all periferals with a rack mount power bar first
(console, WC gen, MEC's, convertors etc etc) and fire up the
computer last.
I think the default transfer line was something like 8-16,
but I can't remember exactly.
What are your config settings for Paris? this may also play
a part. I use 128/128/80/med IIRC... but it has been a
while since I checked.
Good luck!
David.

David,
5 cards and they are attached to A and E. I thought you said to
connect from Mec to Mec in this setup. It seems like it is
defeating the purpose of an outboard WC with this wiring.
If it's the best (only) way it will work then that's what I'll do.
I was going to delete EDSTransfer=3D8,8. Maybe not then huh?
I will use the EXE file to start this time. Is this only to set it up?
I will need to use my default project (projects) in the future.
I'll check the config settings and tell you what I've got. It has
been a little sluggish but stable at upwards of 35 tracks most
of the time with lots of plugs. Never a problem printing basics
which is usually 18 tracks or so.

Hey Tom,
How many EDS cards do you have? If you have more than two,=20
make sure that the second MEC is connected to the highest=20
"letter" card. Run a short BNC cable from the WC out on the=20
Master MEC to the WC in on the second MEC. Do not use the=20
house sync line. Start paris from the *EXE file*, not the=20
default project (this can be done with a shortcut on the=20
desktop). Once Paris *finishes* launching (no more flashing=20
lights on MEC or modules) open a project. When the project=20
has finished opening, select WC sync in the project window.=20
Wait for all lights to stop flashing again, then try to=20
play. If it works (and it should) do a "save as" and rename=20
so it saves the WC input option. When you go to lauch the=20
project again, launch Paris itself first, then open the=20
project from within Paris.
I start all periferals with a rack mount power bar first=20
(console, WC gen, MEC's, convertors etc etc) and fire up the=20
computer last.
I think the default transfer line was something like 8-16,=20
but I can't remember exactly.
What are your config settings for Paris? this may also play=20
a part. I use 128/128/80/med IIRC... but it has been a=20

Connecting between MEC's doesn't defeat it at all... the=20

I never use a default project. I create template projects=20

David,
I am totally functional now using the Lucid.
The clincher must have been the wiring in series.
I did have to start at 48k to get all my EDS cards functioning
though. The B card didn't like starting at 44.1 and wouldn't
give any output until Paris first booted at 48k. Because of this
I think I have to use a default project to get going. I wouldn't
want or even be able to save a new Paris.exe right?
I did lose the EDSTransfer line as well as UseHouseSync=3D1.
Thanks David and Deej for the tips that got me to this point!
You guys are the greatest.
Tic Toc,
Tom

David,
I am totally functional now using the Lucid.
Tic Toc,
Tom

Hi Tom,
Connecting between MEC's doesn't defeat it at all... the=20
conversion *will* be clocked by the external Generator=20
regardless of how it is connected. With fewer than three=20
interfaces, it seems to work better this way.
I never use a default project. I create template projects=20
and open them up once Paris has been launched. This has=20
*always* worked for me. I would try deleting the 8,8=20
line... I don't recall the default installation having this=20
line in it. I believe this is something that Edmund and BT=20
had worked out when he was having troubles with a certain=20
set-up... I have never messed with it myself, and have the=20
identical system you have working flawlessly with external=20
clock.
David.

So your saying that you've got a word clock cable running frum your Lucid
to the 1st Mec, then the 2nd cable running from mec 1 to mec 2? That's really
strange. I guess different MOBO, CPU etc could all play a part. I'm running
all word clock cables from the Lucid to each device (2 mecs, 442, RME card).
never had a hiccup.

That would be because you have 3 interfaces... you *have* to do it
that way. With only 2 interfaces, it works better the way Tom has done it.

I think it has to do with the Paris internal timing... I tried feeding
individual cables to the two MEC's but it seemed less stable somehow.
My thought is that if you don't have 3+ interfaces's, best to leave
well enough alone... but O'yeah, I forgot, I'm talking to DJ :-p

I'm not saying it won't work, on our rig, it just runs better... YMMV.
Cheers,
David.

25' is pretty long. I've got a 7 meter Canare cable that I just can't seem
to use effectively. I used it a couple of years ago with an older POD Pro,
but tried it recently with a TC D2 and couldn't achieve reliable sync. I
don't really use the digital I/O of the D2 enough to make this a big issue,
but I'm going to put the Canare on a cable tester soon and see if it's
defective.

Thanks you guys. Will I then keep the Mecs in series with the
other WC devices connected?

Hi Tom,
No change to Paris is needed unless you add an additional interface.=20
Identical length cables are not necessary, or practical. You *must*=20
use high quality cable and connections though, this is very important. =
I have our WC gen in with the console housing and my cable runs=20
(Canare LV61S with proper crimp connections) vary from 1' to the=20
longest run of about 25'... no problems.
As for the extra detail, the difference will be slight but it will be=20
there. The most noticeable difference will be with a project from=20
scratch.
David.
