Paris v3.0. To update or not to update? [message #92339] Sat, 03 November 2007 18:43 Go to next message

I want to know what everyone thinks about the stability of v3.0? I have a
pentium 4 2.4ghz machine running Paris v2.2 and everything seems stable overall,
a few glitches come up occasionally when I shut down Paris it gives an error.
It doesnt do this everytime, but sometimes I choose Quit and it closes and
gives that Microsoft send error window. I'm wondering if I should just reinstall
Paris and use the v3.0? Will it be compatible with my recordings I've done
in v2.2? And is it worth the upgrade? Also wondering if it costs money
to update to v3.0. From what I read here it appears I have to purchase the
update. Where would I purchase this update?

Sincerely,

Johnny

Hi Johnny,

I've never regretted buying it. It's definitely a nice upgrade. It will
load all your old projects just fine, plus you'll get the graphical EQs,
fader linking, and some other nice features.

Cheers,

Mike

Regarding the crash on exit, have you installed the effect subsystem patch?

More info is here:

I think you can still buy 3.0 from East Coast Music Mall.

Good luck,

Hi John,

Do the update if you can afford it with the following things in mind.

For sure the graphical EQ is wonderful. Rendering is very fast and useful
too. Exporting a stereo wav is nice. I hardly ever use the paf-wav
converter anymore. More so on wave files I'm preparing to add to Paris.
You might consider purchasing Brian T's DVD. It contains very informative
data on how to use Paris to it's fullest. v3.0 DOES have the pace interloc
pain.

If you're using an XP machine you will need to disable hyper threading and
be sure to follow the XP setup steps. I remember having a severe aux bleed
problem on XP with v2.2 on aux 1 and that is fix'd with v3.0, but, v3.0 has
a monitor knob problem. It's OK to use it but when you bounce to disc make
sure it's sitting at "0". Distortion is induced on setting above "0". It
gets really bad above "12" in my situation.

Ask around the newsgroup for info on the things I've discussed. I'm not
always available to answer because I'm out and about quite a bit for a week
or two at a time.

Oh . . . my system with v3.0 on XP is very stable. I run one MEC with two
8-in's, on external clock with two EDS. Two C-16's, two 20" LCD's. P4
2.0ghz 1 gig ram.

Wayne and Mike,

Thanks for the responses on this as always, I think I'm going to give it
a shot to upgrade to v3.0. Sounds like the aux 1 issue you talked about
in your earlier post to my main post on this subject is also happening to
me. It's weird, it only happens sometimes, which forces me to close the
project and then reopen it again and it goes away. (regarding the aux 1
audio bleed into all channels). I think thats what you were referring to,
and you said this issue is fixed in v3.0. You also mentioned that I will
be able to Disc Bounce to .wav directly without having to do a paf-wav convert
in Sound Forge, that's a nice feature.

Hi John,

Yes . . . the aux bleed problem you sometimes get is exactly what I
sometimes got in v2.2 on XP and yes it does not exist in v3.0.

Close . . . the disc bounce is still the dual mono .paf mixdown file, but in
the audio window (8.) you select these two files and export it anywhere you
want, ie, the same folder or to another folder as a stereo inter-weaved .wav
file that will play as a standard wave file.

Also, rendering, v3.0 only, is a way to make a single file from multiple
objects. Let's say you edit the hell out of a guitar track that had all
kinds of pops and clicks and fret noise or whatever. You select all the
clean edits, render to disc and now have a single track all cleaned up. And
it's fast. Just a couple seconds.

The graphic EQ is cool. Instead of looking at numbers, it's graphed. You
select the type, ie, shelf, bandpass or what ever, grab the node and move it
in freq and boost/cut at the same time. You can close your eyes and listen.
Very easy.

Remember though, v3.0 has PACE and get the Brian T DVD. This is definitely
worth it's price. I think it's $30 or 40 bucks.
