Sometime in the not-so-distant future, I'll likely be losing my 4 x
behemouth 21' Trinitron CRT and moving to LCD's.
I don't need fancy digital ones as I'll be using analog video outs but I'd
like the bezels to be minimal. 19" would be fine but they would need to have
1600 x 1200. All I can find is 20" on EBay right now. The Dell UltraSharp
2005FPW 20.1" widescreen LCD looks like a pretty nice unit and these can be
had used for around $300.00 on EBay these days. That's *do'able* budget
wise, but "used is used" and I've had some less than stellar experiences
with refurbed LCD's so I'm a bit wary.

Anyone have any suggestions on a good LCD (1600 x 1200 is a must)

Thanks,

Deej

I’m enjoying my new pair of Westinghouse 22” LCM-22W2s
but they do max out at 1680 x 1050.

Gene,

Can you view a full 16 track/2 aux/master fader submix on this screen at
1680 x 1050?

Thanks,

Deej

I haven’t actually tried it. I am running Paris off a Viewsonic at 1600 x
1200.
The 22” mons are being driven by my G5.
I’m not even sure my G450 can do 1680 x 1050.

OK......Yeah. that's why I'm pretty stuck on 1600 x 1200. It gives me enough
real estate to see a full Paris mixer. Winter's coming on strong here. It's
going down into the 40's tonight and with all of the moisture we've had this
summer, if it keeps up, we're likely to be covered up with snow pretty soon.
I'll probably keep the CRT's until spring. They keep the CR nice and cozy
during the cold weather, but I'm not going to spend another summer with 4 x
CRT's and 3 power amps in the CR with no air conditioning in the summertime.
there's a window between 2:30 PM and &:8:00 PM when it's just not civilized
to work in the studio. Wayyyy too hot.

too bad your dogs are short haired cuz those tails probably could
develop quite a breeze if properly aimed.

Keep an eye out here once in a while. http://www.techbargains.com/cheaplcdmonitor.cfm

I own the same Dell monitor you spoke of below, and got it for around 425
or so from Dell direct. They have even come down as low as 389 at times,
but you have to watch carefully.

That is really an elegant and beautiful monitor. I may look around for US
distributors. Speaking of elegant and beautiful, how have you been?

Hey DJ,

You might wanna keep an eye out for sales at Best Buy - I just picked up two
Westinghouse 19" lcd's a couple of weeks ago on sale for $159 each. They are
sweet. Also, you might check out the widescreens - I can fit 13 channels + 1
aux (or 14 channels no aux) on a screen at 1280x1024. I'm sure the whole
mixer would fit on a widescreen at that resolution.

Agreed. I have 5 of them here in the 19" format - excellent value.

I have used AOC for years. Using 19 inches LCD when writing these words.
Have used it for about 4 years without any problems.
16 ms response time is not for gamers at all but for office and studioes, it
will do the job at a very reasonable price. Alternatives can be Samsung
Syncmaster 204B, LG Flatron L2000C, Philips 200P61, HP LP2065, Acer AL2021
or Acer 2023, at reasonable prices. The cheapest one is Lenovo ThinkVision
L201p. All these have 1600X1200, as far as I can see.

I'm doing fine here in Norway but I am often in Denmark. Have plenty of
studiojobs to do with scandinavian folkmusicians on a 16 channel Parissystem
there. Was there for a periode of 3 summermonths and shall back again next
week for a month or two to finnish some productions.
So a great hello to you all.

Erling

I use two of the widescreen 24" Dells, side by side. Works great.

Hey Deej,
I just picked up a Dell 2007FPW on Craigslist for $300
and the screen is plenty wide for a full submix running
at it's native resolution. Apparently, the Dell Ultrasharp
series are the same LG LCD screens used in the Apple Cinema
Displays. I must say that this thing is brighter and sharper
than anything I've had in terms of LCD's and they are pretty
affordable with a wide screen ratio. Good luck! By the way,
would you have any info on making Paris run on MMC?
Thanks,
Chris

I picked up a 24" 1900 x 1200 pixel Dell last year for the PowerMac.
Slightly diff model than the current one. It's great to have the screen
space for Logic, Final Cut, etc.

Cheers,
-Jamie

Yup, I have two of those 24" jobs, and a 20.1" that I use as a 'quick and
dirty' monitor in my home theater room when I don't want to fire up the projector.
Pretty decent displayes.
