Hi,

I want to expand my Paris system and add some additional EDS cards.

Is the "StarTech.com PCI Express to 4 Slot PCI Expansion System" compatable with the Paris EDS Cards? Has anyone tried one?

I looked at those recently but didn't get one because I was concerned that the EDS card would be too long for the chassis.

Hmm... Internal length 6.7 inches. Sounds unpromising. Anyone know the length of an EDS off the top of their head?

EDS Cards are approximately 11 1/4" in length.

Here's Mike Audet's latest report on the Virtuavia chassis with his new drivers. Btw, don't bother with the 38w version, that's WAY too little power for even one EDS, you need one of the kind that allows you to install a good robust PSU (500w+) yourself.

I have a chassis that I will sell if someone needs it. I would let it go cheap. I used it with 3 EDS cards for like the past 4-5 years with Mike's 32-bit drivers on a Win 7 32-bit install. It is a PCI to PCI system. It was FLAWLESS the entire time I used it. It is all boxed up and ready to ship, but I took some pictures of it first.

I had to get a new chassis because my new computer didn't have PCI slots, just PCI-E. I paid $400 for my new one. I would let the other one go for $200.00, obo, to cover some of the replacement system.

I am having a very good experience with the Virtua Via chassis under Windows 7 64. I just added a Cooler Master Silent 450 power supply to the chassis, and it's been really quiet. I have one "silent" fan pointed at the cards from the side of the case. I switched the leads on the power connector so that it is fed with 5 volts instead of 12, and now it is actually silent, but still keeps the cards cool.

One of the best things about the Virtua Via is that I can just leave the chassis off when I'm doing other programming. With the Magma, one of the CPUs would spike at 100% if the chassis was turned off, so it had to be on if I was using the computer at all.

I have three cards in the chassis using word clock, and I can play all 48 tracks with no issues at all.

For the money, it's really, really nice knowing that I can use PARIS on new PCs for the next decade or so without having to worry about PCI slots.
