As the loudest voice around here (I think) for free software, I'd love to
be able to use Ardour. The (incredibly horrible) MIDI and lack of VSTi support
are early deal breakers for me. Ardour got a Summer of Code grant from Google
to improve the MIDI so at least that's a start.
What I would _really_ like to see, though, is a forward thinking, big player
in the audio world pick a distro (probably Ubuntu) and port to it. Ableton
would the most obvious candidate, IMHO, because they're very innovative and
I know from personal experience have some free software users. I'm not saying
they'd make Live free, but that they'd support it on one distro with a set
of supported chipsets/soundcards.
But that's still a long ways off. Some day, though.
