OT: Myspace Copyright Infringement [message #75495]

I've seen in the news that Myspace has aquired some anti-copyright technology
of Gracenote to stop people uploading unauthorised material. Anybody know
how it works?

The reason I ask is that I just tried to upload a song I wrote last night
and it's claiming it's a copyrighted peice, and yet I know I wrote it, and
would be quite astounded if anybody else had written the same peice.

Yes it borrows some ideas from Radiohead timing wise, but the timing is definably
different from the Radiohead song from which it was inspired, and the chord
progression, melody etc are totally different. I don't see especially how
any electronicly based monitoring system would pick a minor thing like that
up...?

I'm thinking they're still tweaking the system...

I am assuming that you tried to upload an MP3 file. When you created
it, you may have selected the copyright bit flag (wavelab has this).

Interesting. It was an MP3 created in Wavelab, however it used exactly the
same method as all the previous MP3's that I have successfully uploaded.
Indeed I later uploaded a tune using the same method... so it seems unlikely,
though worth checking for sure.

I'm pretty sure Gracenote doesn't actaully examine the musical content of
the song, it just takes a hash of the file itself and compares it to a
database of known songs. You know how sometimes if you rip a CD and try to
get the id3 songs from cddb it will give you several options? I'm not
100% sure but I think thats whats happening. I'd recommend adding a couple
seconds of silence to the end of the track, reencode your mp3 and then
reupload....
