Hey Gantt, I want to ask a couple more Qs about your diagram and the
sounds you get. I went over to Guitar Center and played a PRS on Sunday
and I now know what the usual 5 position PRS wiring offers. I was
impressed by the sounds available and I liked the differences between
the 2 non humbucker positions. My impression from playing the standard
PRS was that it has hot pickups. Would you concur? I ask because that
may be one of the reasons the system they use works so well. On the
other hand a guitar with typical mid or low gain humbuckers may not get
such a robust sound from the split coils. That's a possible theory and
may explain why I was unsatisfied with the results I got when I tried
such things in the past (way in the past actually!)
Can you give me a description or point me to a recording of how your
instrument sounds with your trick wiring as compared to the typical PRS?
I'm trying to make a decision about whether to just order a PRS wiring
kit from Stewart McDonald or order a 4 pole switch and a beginners
course on electrical wiring symbols go for your sound. I certainly like
the idea of keeping the gain up while thinning the sound, as you
mentioned in your original post.
