Hey guys,
It looks like I'm going to be mixing a rock'n'roll project sooner than I
thought using the SX/Scope setup. I've been going through the Scope mixer
doco (pretty cool, actually) and I'm wondering how you guys are integrating
VST f/x in SX with the Scope f/x. Are you sending all tracks straight to
SFP channels and using VST inserts and sends before SFP? Are you automating
in SX or using MIDI to automate the SFP mixer? It looks to me like the SFP
mixer is more versatile (mute and fader groups, the way busses can be linked,
etc.) but the automation in SX is way easier than doing MIDI automation to
SFP. Just looking for ideas because I know I'm going to make some mistakes
before I get it right for me.
Thanks much,
TCB

Thad,
I'm still summing in Paris right now so any Scope plugins are "post" Cubase
SX/VST. My routing matrix is Byzantine and involves routing 48 ASIO sources
to the SPF 48/96 mixer (or whatever it's called), then sending these
individual tracks from the mixer direct outs to 48 Pulsar ADAT destinations
which are physically patched to 48 Paris inputs. 40 of these are routed 1:1
to individual Paris tracks. The other ADAT source is physically patched to
an RME ADI4-DD which is interfaced via AES with 4 x external FX processors
and configured with Aux busses 1-4 of the Scope mixer and physically patched
to a Paris ADAT I/O which is routed to 4 Paris aux busses on a card submix
in the Paris virtual patchbay so that any of the 40 audio tracks that are
being streamed via ASIO from Cubase to the Scope mixer can be routed to any
or all 4 of the external processors and processed in parallel via the
Scope/Paris aux.. I've also got the analog I/O of my A16u set up as external
inserts in Cubase.
sorry........but you asked. ;o)
I've been thinking of getting some kind of mix automation happening via midi
with the Scope mixer, but haven't gone there yet. I've never done this
before and it makes my head hurt, but everyone says it's easy. I'm currently
a midiot and the thought of another learning curve right now just makes my
head hurt.. When I finaly give up summing in Paris, I will likely be wanting
to get into this though.

Cool Deej, and trust me, recording MIDI automation into SX is about one one
thousandth as tricky as your current audio routing. If you have problems
I'm sure I'll be doing at least SOME of that myself so I'll be happy to help.
What would be nice is if one could load VST f/x into SFP or even better if
SFP could run as a ReWire slave. Now THAT would be a real improvement.

Thanks Thad. I'll ping you if I hit the wall.

Another thing that would be waycool is if the XTC mode could work in
parallel with the normal mode so that the Scope plugins could be used as
inserts/send FX in the native environment while the Scope mixer was being
used for routing/summing. Actually, I have only taken others' word that this
can't be done so, having yet not tried to convolute and pervert the Scope
environment, I'm still not convinced that I can't get this to happen
somehow.
