A customer is bringing a 15 channel instrumental Pro Tools mix. Is there anything tricky about that? I've always known it can be done; just never did it. Any advice will be appreciated. I am guessing I need him to bring a data disk with the 15 channel instrument P.T. mix which I am hoping will load into my Paris editor and look the same as any other Paris mix. Thanks for any advice.
I plan to turn the 15 channels into a sub mix and record their choir in it's own mix.

Going from PARIS to other DAWs is getting very simple but going *from* ProTools to PARIS, there still aren't a lot of really elegant, simple options.

The first, free solution (and from your perspective, easiest) is to get the client to render all tracks as individual WAVs starting from "zero". When you receive them, you strip out the BWF headers (a blot of data in the file that differentiates modern WAV files from the "old school" ones PARIS can read) using Reaper or StripWav and import them into PARIS, which will either import them directly (if they're 16 bit) or convert them to PAF on import (if they're 24-bit).

The second option is to
1) download Reaper,
2) take the ProTools session's Audio Files folder and import all the audio into Reaper, each file onto its own track,
3) "spot" each file into the location it was recorded into (say, a punched-in chorus vocal) and
4) render out the track, being sure to deselect the "use BWF headers" option. If you look around on the forum you'll find a script I wrote which automates this process; it's free, as is Reaper for a 30-day trial.

The third option is to purchase AATranslator. That'll translate from PT sessions to pretty much anything *except* a PARIS PPJ, but you should have no problems then opening the PT session in AATranslator, converting it to, say, a Reaper session, and rendering out the audio as in step 4) above. I can't say enough good things about AATranslator, but it *is* $159 for the enhanced version you'd need to pull this off. That's certainly an expense worth contemplating if you're going to be doing this a lot.

If you can get the cooperation of the client, the first option is the "no brainer" from your perspective.

Thanks so much.
I am going to ask the other studio to chop off the front end of the stack off files too even, convert them to wave files and burn me a data disk.
I should have thought of that. But, for some reason I was never blessed with a 'flair for the obvious.'
If there is a heaven; someone probably logged in another 'Duh!' on my slate.
