For those that don't know me, I had one of the largest Paris systems in use
out there and well while @ another music retailer, I sold Paris sytems by
the boatloads, to many of ya'll I'm sure! So I'm curious, since Paris is
long gone, how many here are still using Paris? And how many have moved
on to other systems? If you've moved on, what are you using now?

yeah, brad--

i remember you--
you helped me out years ago when i first had paris--

fyi--
i just bought a g4 quicksilver so i can continue on--
i'm a singer/songwriter
www.jpjones.net
who still has trouble getting my head around tech stuff.
paris, edmund, what's his name(ID), was the greatest thing i ever encountered.
and paris was so much less expensive(and at the time, better sounding than
pro tools-- didn't they reverse engineer everyting?)
so i am eternally grateful to those guys and people like you
who made it possible.
(let's bot forget chuck duffy!)

after 10 or more professionally produced and released CD's,
i am
yours

Hey Brad...
I'm still using Paris. But, I also, use PT(HD,M-Powered), Nuendo.

Later this year, I will be re-building my Win 98 PC and insalling my 5 card
Paris rig on it..And, that PC will just be for Paris...

Hey Brad,

Good to see you around here again. I think I bought my rig from you (ECMM
at least). I sold it probably 2-3 years ago now.

I'm using Nuendo now - loving it for composing, sound design and post.

Regards,
Dedric

I'm still using Paris. I still have the cobbled-together Bundle II
you sold me, and I've added another EDS, three MEC's, 4 C16's, one
ADAT and 2 8iT cards over the years.

Next up is to pick up a third EDS and some more input cards.

It still does what I need - which is primarily tracking live off the
board during concerts, and then playing at being a mix engineer in my
spare time.

I've changed work flows somewhat, but I'm still using Paris as the final
editor and mixdown system. I can see advantages to other systems, but I think
there comes a time when you have to say "My gear does so much that I don't
need anything else".

If I was running a pro studio with clients it would be different I guess,
but given I'm 70% just doing my own stuff, it really suits me just to use
Paris, especially with the prices these days. Still sounds great to me too.

Cheers,
Kim.

Hei Brad.
Welcome back and good to see you again here.
I'm still using Paris with two one card system's, one in Denmark and one
here in Norway. But I have buyed Cubase SX2/3 some years ago, without
learning or using them at all and have now upgrated to version 4, where I've
just have started the learning curve. So, I think Paris will be faded more
and more out when "old me" have learned the basics with Cubase 4. ....But
who knows....;-)

hey da Erling--

having this issue opened up once again,
i have to wonder why edmund and what's his name(ID) couldn't hang in with
us a little longer-- they
created a beautiful recording system, and then,
i guess, because of the money, had to
abandoned us.

Hei da John Paul...

I can follow you here and I think the price to survive had to be payed in
what has happened with Paris. As we can see here, the life is getting
foreward for most of us, with or without Paris. So I'm not speculating
anymore in what could have happened if Ensoniq and ID had making enough
money to make Paris the way they wanted for us.

Cubase 4, rme 9652 and 3 digimax fx on core 2 e6700 here and I'm much happier
than I ever was with Paris. I was never reliable in Paris land and now I'm

Hey Brad,

Long time no see. I quit using PARIS a long time ago and just hang around
here to piss off Don. I'm using SX for the rock'n'roll band I'm in (with
a UAD and a Pulsar card for DSP f/x) and Live for most of my own electronica.
All synths and samplers are software save my Prophet 10 which I can't get
rid of.

I still use Paris at my church to track but I take the wav files back to my
studio and work them in Cubase SX4. Personally I love Cubase SX4 with my
Tascam FW1884 ... hmmm... someone sold me that.

Hi Brad,

I'm still using Paris. Two MECs + four EDS cards + two UAD-1 cards. I've
been thinking long and hard about what I'll be moving to but so far inertia
and lack of spare change has prevented me from making any big changes. Plus,
in spite of all it's quirks and irritations, Paris still sounds great!

I think you tried to sell me something way back when. Was it a Panasonic
digi board? Can't remember!

Hi Brad,Long time.
I always used a hybrid system with Paris. I still do. Can’t get completely
away from the sound. Sometimes Paris is a DSP mix engine, sometimes it’s
an effects rack and sometimes I do projects “All Paris”. Particularly when
working with other Paris producers. Joshua P. Thompson still uses Paris rigs,
(He also has HD now) and David Conley still has Paris rigs.(Many others too,
but I still work with Josh and “Pic”, a fair amount.)

I absolutely LOVED Paris at the time--but as we started to need more things,
it just couldn't keep up. The bouncing down was getting annoying, so we got
more DSP cards. But then trying to do independant headphone mixes became
an issue, then expanding into more tracks was a problem, many native plugins
were giving me issues, etc.

When I left Connecticut in 2000 to come to Sweetwater (wow, I've been here
7-years now???), I also left the studio and Paris systems behind. I was
burned out on audio, I took some time off--but not am back into it.

I use (2) ProToolsHD3 Accel's, each with a Control24. I also use the Digidesign
DShow Venue live tied to an HD system. I have another PC running Nuendo,
Sonar, Cubase4 and a few other programs (all 100% legit) as testing setups
so I can better understand the programs and plugins for my clients. I'm
mixing television post and live broadcast, as well as tracking and mixing
live concerts where I regularly work with 48-80 tracks live. LOL I sometimes
am recording as much as 800MB of data PER MINUTE! :-)

Here's the control room at my home studio:

And the control room at my church:

Glad to hear you're still alive and kickin', Brad!

My main Mac G4-based Paris system went to a very talented musician in
Colorado who plays mainly acoustic music. AFAIK it lives on with him.
Various other PARIS pieces went to folks on this forum.

Although I remain a PARIS fan for multitrack recording and mixing, I
moved on due to the failed MIDI implementation in PARIS and the lack of
OSX support.

I now use Logic Pro along with a boatload of astonishing synth/FX
plugins. My MOTU 828MII along with eight extra mic pres and outputs on
the ADAT i/o gives me more inputs and outputs than I had with PARIS.

Moving synths/samplers and FX into the computer allowed me to lose
several full racks of outboard gear while gaining the ability to run
more iterations of whatever the song calls for. All is now running
comfortably on a dual G5, which is also a great platform for my hard
working video editing, compositing, graphics and animation software.

Cheers,
-Jamie

Brad -

As you know, I am still using Paris in my little studio, however, I am
migrating away from it as the centerpiece. Earlier this year, I put
together a PC to host my UAD card, and I will likely make that the
central recorder soon.

I plan to pick up a Tascam DM4800 digital mixer to server as the
frontend for the new PC. Currently it has an RME Multiface as its i/o
and is running Samplitude, Reaper, and N-Tracks. When the DM4800 makes
it into the studio, I may consider Sonar or Cubase for tighter control
surface integration. Also, I have a Muse Receptor, and would like to
get it more in the signal path too.

At that time, Paris will move over to be the mixdown system, so I will
have a 2-card setup with ADAT + analog transfer capability of up to 32
tracks.

As always, we make this up as we go, so who knows what the final
configuration will be, but I am really looking forward to getting the
DM4800 here and playing with it.

LOL everyone keeps writing "good to see you're alive", I didn't realize just
how sick I was! Actually, I've had (3) ambulance rides, one of which I arrived
at the ER with a temp of 105, believe it or not. The funny thing was I was
going in and out of things but I remember them asking me which hospital I
wanted to go to.....I said "McDonalds" :-)

I am still a faithful user. I use Paris everyday. Last year I upgraded to
a dual core PC running XP and ran into a few glitches to get it to work properly,
but now it is very stable. I still love working with Paris, and although
I've thought about moving to a different system, I haven't needed to just
yet.

Funny, I'd rather track in Paris and mix where I can have a bit more flexibilty.

While I'm considering switching to XP for the home studio to give me a
bit more flexibility in plugins and the ability to run a faster
processor, I'm sticking with the Mac for the mobile rig for that very
reason.

Knock on wood, I've been able to reliably track 16 tracks for 2 hours
on a 300MHz G3 for years. I love that.

Still using a mere 16 tracks of this ol' dinosaur. I'll probably be using
Paris till it breaks, or till I break, whichever comes first.

I am still addicted to the sound / glue of it. Pre production happens in
another proggy, but yeah... I'm addicted to Paris and in recovery every time
I turn it on :)

Brad, you of course know I migrated over to Cubase a while
ago. Currently running SX3 on:

* Intel Dual-Core 2 x 2.8 Gigger
* 2 gigs of RAM (off-the-shelf Gateway PC, actually... got a
screamin' deal recently on the last of the XP boxes).
* 2x RME Multifaces
* But still have Paris & Pulsar cards on a separate PC running
WinME - Paris system has 2 EDS cards/MEC/8-in module/ADAT
module. The two PC's are ethernetted together for easy
fileswapping.

Thinking about getting a 2nd 8-in module just in case I have a
band project come up where I need that Paris convertor sound.

Gang, Brad actually "sold" me my first Paris system - although
he did so just as he was leaving Caruso, so when I actually
made the purchase, he had already left for greener, "sweeter"
pastures.

Neil
(who has probably put Brad's soon-to-be two kids through at
least one year of college since he's been at SW, though! lol)
