Turns out that the live "instant cd" thing that my friends and I have
been doing has started to get a buzz amongst the indie and folk crowd,
and we've been asked to do it for a few more shows, and possibly a
whole festival.

Now, in the past, we just fed the FOH stereo mix directly into a cd
recorder, then spooled off copies in a couple of duping towers for the
fans who had bought copies. I'm sure a lot of them didn't know the
difference, but I know you guys know that when you hear a FOH mix up
close, in your face, and dry, it generally sucks.

Now, for the 6 years I did the acoustic thing at my theatre, I
multitracked everything off the board into Paris, so I could play mix
engineer later (or, as I learned from Emerick's book - "balance
engineer").

For the Peterik show we just did, we tried something different. I
gave our recording guy my C16 and an adat feed from the Paris mix
buss. He sat there during the gig with headphones and one hand on the
C16.

Bingo. Waaayyyyyyyyyy better recording.

Realized afterwards I could also put a little plate on the auxes and
add some sweetening, which we will do next time.

So, it's time to rack up the MEC and the G4 (gonna throw in the 442
and IF-2 so I can get an extra 6 channels with one more EDS card) and
take this on the road.

If I actually make some money at this, the wife will be much more
amenable to toy purchases....

One question - two EDS cards, possibly 2 MEC's with 8in cards.

Aside from the EDS jumpers, can I get by without clocking?

Up to 2 MEC's and as many EDS cards as you want on internal
clock... no problem.

David.

Well, I currently have three.... but if two end up in a mobile rig, I
should, by rights, have two in the home rig as well.

Right?

Problem is, I have to feed the MEC's. $235 for a second EDS for the
mobile rig, $235 for a second EDS for the home rig.... then I need
two more 8in cards for the road rig.....

And then the road rack will need a dolly, since two mecs with cards
plus a G4 ain't light anymore. And the second case for the C16's, and
an LCD and keyboard/mouse, plus the 32-channel snake, and the patch
panels....

Dammit!!!!!! You guys are going to suck me into the whole swirling
vortex of gearslutdom, aren't you?????

Bastards.
