hi guys--
haven't been here for a few YEARS, though have produced my usual
yearly cd's on PARIS.
i'm still working on an old mac(G3 1997) with predictably sound(no pun intended)
results, but encountering impossible problems with internal and external
gear, most importantly my cd recorder.
i'm thinking it's probably time to switch to pro tools(boo--)
and am wondering if i could buy a new mac and somehow convert my work to
function under the latest mac OS and pro tools.
at this point i don't have the drivers to run even PARIS 3.0
my mac has no way of accessing the internet--
this email comes via an ancient pc.
i am not technical minded at all, and every move i make is
frought with details that are extremely diffcult for me to work through.
i'm an artist, basically, not an engineer, and am afraid, aften ten years
of loving PARIS that i may lose it all
and have to learn pro tools and lose 20 or so cd projects by myself and others
that i have produced over the years.
any thoughts from you guys would be helpful.

You could try the OMF file thing. YMMV. If you really want to go with PT,
I would still consider a Mac. They are still easier to use, you won't have
compatibility issues. It will just work, if the model is on their list,
which I think they all are.
First thing I would do is get an external firewire hard drive, and back up
everything. Just plug it in and drag and drop your files and folders. I'd
drop a CD burner in the G3 and keep rolling with it. It's not hard to do.
If you need a new hard drive it's just as easy to add, and or add additional
drives. A new CD burner and a new drive should cost you less that a hundred
bucks.
You could also do a transfer between systems via analog or digital depending
on your set up. Depending on the music, I would want to drive paris hard
on the transfer for the sound. If you have the I/Os, I would use Paris for
final mixdown by running stems from PT to Paris.
I'd keep Paris around!
