We threw out some fried chicken earlier today into a big dumpster that sits
between our house and the property next door. A little while ago, the dogs
started going absolutely banannas. I looked outside and there was this huge
black bear digging through the dumpster......and I mean huge. One of the
biggest I've ever seen. Unfortunately, he's pretty bold and would not spook
when we yelled at him to try to scare him off. That's bad news for bears
around here. I have noticed a few of the local trashcans overturned in the
mornings. Once the neighborhood starts complaining, the animal control dept
will trap him and relocate him and if he returns, they will kill him. I'm
going to get a bear proof trashcan for the organic stuff we throw out. I'd
hate to see this guy get popped. He's magnificent, but easily a top of the
food chain predator.
