Hey guys,
Well, it's been two freakin' years since I started getting sick and it
wasn't until Nov that they figured it out 'cuz I didn't have the one
main symptom that they look for...sheesh..dr's...
LSS...I'm back to health and feelin' great....downside - I've had to put
many things, including my music/studio endevours, on hold. Now that I'm
back to normal I can begin again where I left off.
So where I left off was getting Nuendo (in comp 2) to slave to Paris (
comp 1) via paris adat card and digi9652 card.
I have the settings and p-bay in Paris set correctly, I'm pretty sure,
'cuz when I hit paris/play, the digi9652 control panel indicates that
the sync is working and the time begins to roll in comp 2.
But Nuendo doesn't start. I've set it up the way I think it should go,
having done syncing (LTC) in Cubase for years, but I'm doing something
horrible wrong I suspect. Word clock is also connected. So I'm not sure
what's happening to make Nuendo not respond to the incoming 9-pin signal.
Does the paris/digi setup allow me to use APP or regular adat sync (that
I'm in the dark about and assume it uses the optical conections, yes?
Dunno. Am I even using the correct way of going about syncing? What do I
need/need-to-know to make these two comps dance?
I'd sure appreciate some help getting back up and running. : )

Have you got the sync button engaged in the Nuendo transport window (F2
brings up the transport window I believe)

Yup. Whatever is going on here is related to some non-intuitive setting
I think.

Hi Jef,
Nice to see you back on the group, and in good health!
AFAIK, the Digi series had issues with syncing using the 9 pin port.
I seem to recall BT having issues with these cards and had to switch
to the HDSP version. I was not succesful at getting this to work here
with a Nuendo 9652 card (Digi 9652 re-badged for Steinberg) and made
the switch to the HDSP version also (anyone want a cheap Nuendo 9652
card? ;-). I think it had to do with either NU/Cubase software
versions, or operating system... can't remember exactly what it was.
Perhaps DJ has more to add here...
Regards,
David.

SX needs to be set to sync to ASIO positioning protocall or something like
that. I'll have to check tonight when I can get to this. I also recall
issues with the older *digi* 96 cards not syncing to Paris. My best advice
would be to sell the old card and get an HDSP model. These just work
flawlessly with no gnashing of garments, rending of teeth.

oops, sorry guys, it IS the HDSP I have in there. Now what? Should I set
it to APP? Gonna try that.

The ADAT sync being generated by Paris is dependant on the clock signal
being received by Paris. If you are using the Paris clock, then the HDSP
will be syncing to the Paris clock. If you're not using an external clock,
the RME HDSP clock is probably more accurate than the Paris clock.
If you are using more than one MEC, the best way to sync Paris to an
external clock is to distribute the RME clock with an external box like the
Lucid CLK-6 receiving sync from the RME and then sending it to each MEC.
If you do this, you will need to edit your Paris.cfg file wby adding the
following line:
UsrHouseSync=1
Then you will need to go into C:\\Program Files\EMU\Paris and open Paris
from your original Paris.exe file. When the Project opens, set the sync
source to Word Clock and the sample rate to 48kHz and name it default
project.ppj. Save this twice, once to your C:\\Program Files\EMU\Paris
directory and once to your desktop. Then reboot Paris and you will be good
to go with a house clock. You don't need to set the house clock to 48kHz.
Leave it at 44.1. Just open the default project.ppj, , then navigate to your
other projects that are 44.1, open them and reset the clock source to 44.1,
close them, reopen them and you're good. Your paris projects are now sync'ed
to the HDSP (or other) clock.
Now whether or not you did all of the stuff above, the HDSP should still
sync to ADAT timecode being generated by Paris, no matter what clock Paris
is generating, sooooo.........in Nuendo, set it to sync to
ASIO Positioning Protocall, connect a serial cable from the Paris ADAT
output to the HDSP ADAT input go into the HDSP control panel and set it to
sync to ADAT sync hit play on the Paris C-16 and the timelines should lock
up.

Geez, thanks so much for the indepth look under the hood Deej!
So, if I read you correctly, I can use the clock in the hdsp via word

I would use a nice short high quality BNC cable, and clock Paris to
the HDSP. It will clear a little of the mud in the imaging of Paris.
Glad to see you got it working.

just to clarify, is this like scsi termitation when I need to actually
cap the cable (i never trusted the dip switches) ?, in this case with a
T and a terminator on the "far" and of the chain on the last device, or
would it be a not-so-bad idea to do the hdsp end also?

<pre wrap="">The ADAT sync being generated by Paris is dependant on the clock signal
being received by Paris.
UsrHouseSync=1
Now whether or not you did all of the stuff above, the HDSP should still
sync to ADAT timecode being generated by Paris, no matter what clock Paris
is generating, sooooo.........in Nuendo, set it to sync to
ASIO Positioning Protocall, connect a serial cable from the Paris ADAT
output to the HDSP ADAT input go into the HDSP control panel and set it to
sync to ADAT sync hit play on the Paris C-16 and the timelines should lock
up.

Perhaps DJ has more to add here...

If the last device in the WC chain has a "loop through" jack, then
attach a BNC connector that has a 75 Ohm 1% resistor soldered across
it. Some devices have actual 75 Ohm termination switches on them.

If I go with the hdsp as clock, then the last device will be Paris,
correct? ...which I think has only In and Out, yes? Does this still apply?

Geez, thanks so much for the indepth look under the hood Deej!
So, if I read you correctly, I can use the clock in the hdsp via
word clock right?
Yes.
So I need to hook up a work clock cable from the hdsp out
to paris in? Do I need to terminate this?
I would do it. Paris is supposed to autoterminate and the
HDSP has
a jumper, but I would still do it with 75ohm terminator caps.

<pre wrap="">just to clarify, is this like scsi termitation when I need to

If you are using more than one MEC, the best way to sync Paris to an

AFAIK, the Digi series had issues with syncing using the 9 pin
