Has anyone had success with Paris sharing a computer with another DAW? If
so, what are the limitations?

Thanks! Greg

Define sharing.. is that running at the same time or is that running at
separate times?

If running at separate times, I had pretty good success with a variety of
apps over the years.

I tried some years back to get Paris and Vegas (ver 3 I think) running at
the same time so I could have MIDI... boy, that was ugly and I haven't tried
it since. The only concurrent app I ever got to run was Master Tracks Pro,
and it just didn't react very stable so I stopped fooling with single PC /
multi app locks. I think with multicores you could do this fairly well now
if you create a CPU affinity profile segmenting each app to it's own core.

Nuendo and Paris here. 16 channels out of Nuendo summed in Paris. Sweet.

I have been running Nuendo and PARIS on separate computers. Would be great
to use the same computer. What computer setup/OS do you use?
Thanks,

I'm running on XP Pro
Nuendo uses a Echo Layla 3G 8 x adat + 8 x analog
I also have a UAD card in the system
I do all my mixing in Nuendo but send out 16 channels of grouping to Paris.
2 EDS cards.
I also buss my Lexicon in over vocals there.
No real issues in doing this. Memory sits at around 350 meg with both apps
open.
I mix and then print to disc with Paris - all 24bit files.

I won't be running them at the same time so it sounds like I will be ok for
the most part. I am also interested in Kontakt and running EWQLS gold, but
that's down the road a bit.

So, you're sending the Nuendo mix from the Layla back to the external inputs
of PARIS?

A, that's the same thing I was doing with Paris & Logic
together on the same machine when I first got Paris; in order
to be able to use Logic's MIDI feature to playback/trigger my
programmed synth parts & record them into Paris (v2).

I don't recall the exact procedure, but you had to have various
settings on each app set "just so", and then Paris HAD to be
the slave (contrary to what the manual says, in that Paris
works better as the master app).

Yes. 8 channels ADAT + 8 channels analog - BTW to my ears the analog at 24
bits sounds better than the ADAT at 20bit

Editing in Nuendo as you will know is great, as is delay compensation,
however the difference between the mix from Nuendo and the same mix summed
in Paris is dramatic. The only thing I don't like about the 'Paris sound' is
a perceived lumpiness in the low end - its a little 'woofy' for some
reason - just the downside to the 'magic sauce'.

I also love having 16 faders to bump and ride the mix - particularly lead
vocal - even after its been automated.

Hmmm. . .curious, since the analog in goes through another conversion, that
it would sound better. Are you using effects, eq, etc, in PARIS, or just
summing? It would be interesting to see a spectrum view of the Nuendo mix
and the summed PARIS mix.

It's largely because of the sound and warmth of the Paris converters
compared to 20bit digital.
Its definitely not a huge thing and I guess it comes down to taste.
However the summing thing is not subtle at all. I've done a series of ABs
where I have gain matched and compared the outputs of a 16 ch sum with no eq
no effects and I can pick the mixes every time.
When I sum in paris I may do a little bit of extra EQ - probably just to
account for the bass lump.
I just add the Lexicon back in at this point rather than EDS FX.
However I wouldn't be shy about using a chorus or whatever over a group if I
needed it within Paris
