Yeah..I understand. In my situation I had to basically custom =
design/build my monitor platform and desk with the idea in mind of being =
able to work at 1600 x 1200 on CRT's and have the monitors close enough =
to me to where I could see what's going on while keeping them below the =
reference monitor plane. It's just *barely* adequate, but it works in my =
situation. Someitmes there is some eyestrain with seeing some of the =
smaller icons on the screen at 1600 x 1200 due to the distance between =
the sweet spot and the screen. That's why I think it might be a better =
scenario to use a wide screen LCD. That way I could *possibly* work at =
1280 x 1024 and still be able to have the width to see all 16 channels =
at once. The top and bottom real estate isn't nearly as important.
These are going to be on sale at Staples tomorrow morning fromn 6-10AM =
for $179.00.

The snowfalls have started in this region and since the roads are mere =
goat trails and the mountain passes are covered with snow at this time =
of year. To get to a Staples, I have to get my sherpas to help me hitch =
a team of horses to a wagon, and then we arm ourselves with spears, =
bows, arrows and make enough torches dipped in pitch that they will last =
the 10 days it takes to get to the front range of the Rockies where the =
legendary settlement called Denver is supposed to exist while fighting =
off hordes of ravenous wolves who lie in wait. If I'm lucky and get past =
the wolves, then there are the yetis and avalanches.............

Damn DJ here in Ottawa it's a balmy 45 F outside...absolutely gorgeous =

Your screen shot looks like it shows 3 more strips than 1280x1024 =

I was thinking of using the Matrox Triple Head 2 Go which seemingly only =
provides 3840x1024
to three monitors off of the second head of my dual head card. I think =

I guess with this scenario I'll be stuck with 1280x1024 permanently. =
Okay then no widescreen.
I also really don't like that shiny glass look of some new LCDs. I =
prefer the flat look if you

Tom,
Looks like the specs o the triple head don't allow more than 1280X1024
on each monitor, so you would be "stuck"
You're looking for a matte or antiglare finish. The reflective finish
has become more popular (especially in laptops), because it comes off as
brighter (especially in power save mode).

Here's another idea:
A couple of weeks ago, Costco here in SoCal had Viewsonic 22" widescreen
LCD's (#VX2235wm) on sale for $300 ea with their coupon. I picked up a
couple of them, and I am totally in love. 1680 x 1050 native
resolution, 5 ms response time, gamma settings which look very close to
CRT's for skin tone accuracy in video playback, dual inputs - VGA & DVI,
etc. Once I 'installed' the monitor software, ie, copied the .inf files
over, my P650 Matrox said "OK, I can do that resolution on both VGA
ports, and give you TV out, too!" Very simple...
I no longer use Paris (Nuendo 3 here), but nonetheless, there is a lot
of real estate available for mixer or timeline screens with these
babies, and I have seen them in the various other electronics stores
(Best Buy, Circuit City, etc) for around $400 after rebates.
My next project is trying to get HD video playback from the Nuendo
timeline onto one of these beauties, as they will do 720p from the VGA
or DVI port without breaking a sweat. Still looking for the proper AVI
file types to achieve that, though...
