Hey Folks... gotta question concerning the 8 out card. Since I never had
one and always planned to get one... I am not sure how they work concerning
mixing... If I have a song with 16 complete tracks recorded. And I have
one 8 out card... can I somehow send those 16 tracks out the one 8 out card?

Or another words, can I place more than one output track to one channel on
the 8 out? I hope I'm not confusing things... OR, if I have 16 tracks of
a song, must I get two 8 out cards in order to get all 16 tracks out through
the cards?

You can assign aux sends to the 8 out card. With two cards you could
get 16 discrete outputs using all 8 aux sends. With only one card, you
would have to do some pre-mixing. The 8 out card can also be assigned
to the monitor/mix outs to take advantage of the 24 bit convertors.

Hi David,

I am not quite following what you wrote or suggest. But looking at your
response, I guess the answer to my question is... no, you can't send multiple
tracks to one channel on the 8-out.

I never used the aux sends and returns for anything... so that is new territory
for me. I like to keep things simple and not confuse my setup. I honestly
believe if I start routing things thru the aux's, I would lose track of what
is what. So I just do the normal recording. Or maybe I'll find a really
great deal on two 8-out cards someday...

16 discrete outs means 1 to 1. Sending 16 individual channels out of Paris
would
require the equal amount of 16 individual physical connectors. You would
only need
to do this if you wanted to work with those 16 channels individually outside
of Paris. like you were mixing on an anolog console. Otherwise, the Aux way
of
doing things is really quite simple: On each channel strip turn on an Aux
send
(1 thru 8) and on the Aux output module (right side of the mixer) select
"External"
as the destination. Then you select how you want the channels sent ie, which
tracks can be grouped together, stereo pairs, drums, backgrouond vocals etc.
and send them out. The Aux module takes care of the returning of the signal.
The only confusing part is that the Aux module in the Patch bay is called
"Effects".
