Hi,
Whilst love Paris to bits, there are certain features - or lack of features
- that are starting to grate and I suspect at some point I'll end up on SX
or with a Digi 002. In the meantime, I'd like to get more familiar with SX
(or something else), have the option of running more than 4 inserts in Paris
(I don't know anything about plug-in wrappers I'm afraid), be able to run
external plug in effects on the Paris inserts (e.g. processing as external
insert via ADAT another PC), use midi, etc.
I've got my main Paris PC. 2 EDS, MEC with Adat and + 8 i/o and a 442.
I've got a second PC that could run Cubase SX with an (v1) Event Gina PCI
soundcard, which features Adat I/O (together with 2 in / 8 out + SPDIF).
Just to confuse things, I have a Korg Oasys PCI card which only runs under
w98/me, so that goes in a third PC (this has Adat I/O and analogue A/O +
SPDIF).
I've also got a Midiman USB 2x2 midi interface - though I'm guessing I may
need a few more of these to link everything together.
I'm not quite sure how all this should be best integrated into one system,
particularly in terms of syncing / world clock / MIDI. It seems to me that
the Paris PC would be for audio, linked by adat I/O to the SX PC, which would
be used for MIDI work and further audio processing (e.g. inserts on Paris).
The Oasys PC is effectively just a hardware synth - it would take Midi out
from the SX PC and output audio via SPDIF back into Paris for recording /
mixing (Though it is also capable of audio processing / fx (filters are nice)).
Any bright ideas on how to sync Paris with, especially, the Cubase PC (MIDI?
Midi over LAN? etc?) greatly appreciated. (LAN is currently not gigabit,
but might upgrade if nec). Or any ideas on how best to configure this hardware
/ software setups, etc.
