So I've got my PARIS rig working again. Plays back 64 tracks without a hiccup.
Had to replace both hard drives, do a PACE reauthorization, etc...
Now I'm running into trouble trying to get my UAD-1 working right. It's functioning
correctly, but the wrapper doesn't seem to be doing its job. I've tried
loading UAD-1 version 2.1, and also version 3.0, both of which have worked
for me in the past. I'm using fxpansion 3.3, and have also tried 4.05...
I've removed the programs and reloaded over and over in just about every
combination, including fresh loads of PARIS 3.0, UAD-1 2.1 and then later
with 3.0, and tried each UAD version with each version of the wrapper. I've
done the tweeks in the PARIS.cfg of "EDStransfer=8,8" and configuration to
disk I/O to 128k. I just get the dark sand-colored background versions of
the plugins, with non-funtioning meters. The compressors and EQ's are working,
just not displaying that they are working. Yes, I've pulled the card out,
loading software before installing the card.
I'm guessing that in PARIS configurations under "Set VST path" it is wanting
me to give it "C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins\PoweredPlugins... So
I've done that as well, but no joy...
This is on a 1.9 Ghz athlon running ME on a 4-EDS card system.
Has anyone else had to figure this out lately? I could use some words of
wisdom and/or encouragement. I read in an older post that UA does not support
PARIS calls for help. I'm probably just doing one step wrong each time I
go through this. DOH!!!
Thanks for listening.

Mike,
It's something wierd like that. I've seen the two versions in the distant
past, where only the second one really worked, but that was before this current
dilemma.
On one of my recent attempts last night, I got PARIS up and brought up a
project. I was thrilled that the plugin on the PARIS mixer native area showed
"VST UAD-1". When I clicked on the device on the mixer plugin area, it diplayed
properly (A GRAY BACKGROUND instead of the sick greenish-brown sand-colored
background. I ran audio, but darn it, nothing was compressing. To my dismay,
I saw the UAD-1 lying next to my PC. I had forgotten to reinstall the card
on this try.
Not to be defeated, I shut down the computer, installed the UAD-1 card, and
brought the whole thing back up. The LA-76 was still installed on the channel,
and I still had the gray background. The compressor was working. I closed
the LA-76, then tried to bring it back up just to make sure I was successful.
What a bummer. It was puke brown background again, and the compressor worked,
but no metering. Back to square one. No meters, no working, accessible VST.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but hope I don't have to go all the way
back to formatting the drive and starting from scratch. I had a heck of a
time getting this system playable again.
I know the problem is the nut behind the wheel, but I can't seem to find
where I'm steering off the straight and narrow.
Thanks.

Deej,
Thanks for the wrapper file. My system is up and functional now, including
the UAD-1 and meters on the VST compressors,in spite of me. I really struggled
with getting the VST up and staying up. I guess it was confusion as to the
path to the dll's. I kept thinking in PARIS under "Set VST path" the system
was asking for the C:program files/steinberg... blah, blah... and I kept
trying that to no avail...
but it just wanted a good, fresh wrapper, and any old path under the sun.
Much like when you start to record and it makes you give a recording path,
but doesn't seem to really care what the path is... When I loaded some of
Chuck Duffy's patches like No Limit, and Barb EQ, it would blow away my VST
again, and I would have to go through the wrapper install and the mindless
VST path. THe wrapper would blow away at the slightest hiccup, and need to
be reinstalled. What a pain. Since this was a "from the ground up" install,
the order in which various peripheral programs were loaded, like the skunkworks
plugs, seemed to shoot holes in my VST. I ended up deleting the EQ pack
because PARIS started crashing after I installed and tried to use it. After
that and another round of loading wrappers and setting VST path, whattaya
know... it's all working. For now. ;^)
Like I said, the problem is the nut behind the wheel.
Thanks for the help, folks.
