I don't think it's ever been more important to the country . . . at least
not in my lifetime.

Love,

Sarah

But if I vote for all the candidates you oppose, will it still
be important?

Vote for what? They're all idiots with no plan. Show me a candidate
with a written plan that shows clearly what he/she stands for, what
immediate goals they have with a roadmap, what budget they propose to do
it with and what timeframe they have. Oh and the milestones to indicate
their progress along the way.

Hmm..........NONE of them.........surprise surprise

Anyone catch "Hacking Democracy" on hbo last night? It's a bit un-nerving,
but worth watching.

Yes you do... you can complain that everyone sucked so bad that
not a single one of 'em deserved your vote in the first
place... which is about the point that I'm getting to.

And to me I don't care if they are of any party. I just want specifics.
Anything else is just rhetoric. Then I see the news saying Barack
Obama is the new great thing. So I watch him on Larry King and he's
just talking broad brush strokes pie in the sky. Sorry Barack, but if
you can't lay it out in detail I'm not interested. Oh, and I reserve
the right to QUESTION your detail and ask for more substantiation of
your proposal as if you had one.

Well heck, Dick Cheney's brother is a surveyor in these parts and I figured
if he got elected he would give no bid contracts to Halliburton to suck
prarie dogs out of their burrows and send them to fight in Iraq since they
are probably smarter than the soldiers over there.

OK, I really didn't think this would turn into a discussion, so I
apologize for that. But I just wanted to say one thing before I drop this.

It's absurd to say "they're all . . . " anything. Whenever I hear huge
generalities about any group of people, I figure I'm listening to someone
who simply doesn't want to really look a little deeper. There are honest,
ethical people in government, and if they're outnumbered it's precisely
because as fat, comfy Americans we have been apathetic and cynical long
enough to let the crooks and liars take over.

And even if it was true that they're ALL bad, which it isn't, I would
still be saying, "Please vote," because sometimes choosing between the
lesser of two evils is a life or death decision.

They all suck. NONE of them have any plans! I have better plans for building
a dog house than this bunch of idiots have? Which genius have I overlooked
?

Actually, I was going to build a dog house today and I did a complete plan
and did a cost list before I bought the materials and the house I was building
was going to be $200 so I bought one for $169 that suits me ok. So here
I am costing things out before I execute them. What a concept !!

How stupid. So voting is like getting a rebate for something you don't want

Why don't you submit yourself for public office, John.
You might even be able to change the world, but wait, you could never get
Paris working properly, so maybe that's not such a great idea either.

You're not an idiot John,
but.......................................arghhhh!!!!! Never mind;-)
I mean it's a good idea to vote, trying to change America a bit for the
worlds sake. We can all be small wheels helping the bigger ones to go around
and make a better world for us all, whereever we're living in our great,
little world of today. Especially when we have got the choice to vote, where
so many good people around the world have fighted for up against the years.
We have all heard the words "Human Rights" up against the years, but how
many of us are doing something with it? Sarah is one of them trying to do
something, where some other better wish to build or buy a doghouse for their
own world;-)

I don't think I've ever been so bored with voting.....at least in my
lifetime. I won't even bother with it. Penn Gillette is right. It's
like the Moe, Curly and Larry routine where he holds up 5 fingers and
says "Pick 2" and then pokes you in the eyes, or like the movie war
games where the only winning strategy is not to play.

I'm still waiting for a list of the politicians that have a detailed
plan ready for scrutiny. hmmmmm

hehe,
John

That’s fine. In the last few national elections many people with progressive
ideas stayed home because they felt they had no good options. As a result,
we have handed the country to people that “I” think are crooks, incompetent
and worse. I can only hope that this time the other side stays home by the
millions. To all my conservative Paris friends: Please pass on this election,
and the next. There are no good choices for you.

John,
If you think I believe the Dems have a perfect plan and will make everything
swell, you are sadly mistaken. I believe the Democrats will have their share
of crooks and liars, including plenty of pocket lining old school fat cats.

Even so they will be FAR better.

It is sad that we always have to choose between the “Lesser Of Two Evils”,
but it is the nature of our two-party system. However… this is the worst
and most dangerous administration in the modern era and they have to go.
I only hope my vote will actually be counted.

You know John, I hear you! Maybe you should run for office?

The problem I see is this: people are for the most part pretty stupid.
Shocking, I know. Who in this country would actually read a detailed plan
of action? I think if there were enough people who demand that (over say
probably the meager 15% who care) that might happen. But that doesn't sound
like the US to me...

Who actually cares about anything if nothing really touches their daily lives?
At what point does your average citizen stand up and go to the streets?
I'm really amazed at our populace's (and my own) ability to sit comfortably
watching TV. But if you don't have a draft touching you, or if you don't
think your privacy counts for anything, then no one really cares. Sad, really.
But I feel like my own voice is pretty drowned out by complacency...

I also hope my vote is counted, even if I can't stand most of the people
I'm voting for. Would our election process stand up to world scrutiny?
No. There has to be a better way.

Oh, and while I'm on a rant, I can't stand that horrible John Mellencamp
"song" Chevrolet is hawking on TV. Oh, right, rural white dudes own the
country. We've come so far!

So, how many of us here are still using Paris?

Peace,

Graham (who is probably stupid too)

Well, you're free to vote or not, and sit around waiting for perfection
to come knocking. Hope that works out OK for you. At least you won't be
voting for someone you think is incompetent.

I'm with Sarah, definitely not sitting this one out. And since I see no
reason to trust hackable voting machines, I'm voting absentee on a paper
ballot.

Cheers,
-Jamie

I don't know if it's true, but I heard someone on the radio saying that
absentee ballots aren't even counted unless the margin is small enough for
them to make a difference. It doesn't sound right to me, but that's what
someone said on some radio talk show (don't even remember what show it was).

Could they have been referring to "provisional ballots" rather than
absentee ballots?
