Hey guys, it's Monkietime! These are EXTREMELY rough mixes of the upcoming
record. By rough I mean pretty much mixed with a 2x4, i.e. barely mixed at
all, but it's in indication of what we're doing.

Feedback welcome,

Tre' cool. I'd guess that there is at least one Tubes fan in the group from
what I heard?

Nick and Russ are into EVERYTHING. Russ is even a big prog rock Genesis fan.
Wouldn't guess from these tunes, though.

It's good to be getting down to mixing time at long last . . .

We have confirmation Russ is, in fact, a big time Tubes fan. News to me but
props on your ears.

Sounds great!

From an arrangement/production standpoint, on "Ports and Borders" my first
impression was that there are a couple of golden opportunities to add
intensity and a strong narrative curve to the arrangement with a
relief/texture change. I'll just throw out some things that might have
occurred to me to mess with - maybe [depending on bleed issues] dropping the
kit down to kick only (or snare only) or even killing the drums for 4 or 8
in a strategic location and letting those great guitar parts carry it,
bringing the drums back in on the eight-note builds (depending on how
adventurous the client lets you be and what market you're after, maybe
squish the heck out of 'em and crud 'em up with a filter and fade 'em back
up). Those "chime guitars" are a great little African hint, btw.

I almost heard the intro as being just the snare build from Bar 3 (maybe
just beats 3 & 4) copied back over bars 1 & 2 so it's an insane three-bar
build. And when it gets to the 4 bars before the vocals come in, over the G
- Gsus build, I thought of breaking it down - maybe by killing everything
but kick and snare and bringing 'em back in with the vox. That's the sort of
stuff I'd be trying out (and naturally quickly throwing away if it didn't
work). My $.02 fwiw.

- Kerry

Like the guitar textures. Couldn't pick out all the words in the vocals
in this rough mix. Overall it's very bouncy and happy sounding, in a
good way. :^)

Thanks Kerry, I'll forward your suggestions on to Nick. I tend to be a little
more 'aggressive' at mixdown with those sort of rethinks than the other two
guys. But they're not my songs so I can get fancy ideas.

Thanks for the compliments on the guitars. Ports and Borders is almost all
Nick, using a Fender Jaguar and my strat sometimes, I think, and a Bassman
or Top Hat depending. Hobo Rocket is almost all me, using mostly my LP and
Savage. The feedback in the intro is all LP + Savage, and was a TON of fun
to do.

When I have more complete, proper mixes I'll let y'all know.

Great tones TCB, I'm sure the final mixs will be killer.

We're the Mold Monkies. I refer to everything involving the band with the
word Monkie. Our 'studio' is the Monkiedome. A show is a Monkiegig. We're
currently looking for a Monkiedrummer, etc. and so forth.

Glad you liked the tunes, more coming up.

Outstanding!

Shining Hobo Rocket is ready for prime time and my favorite new song this
year!

Ah, you're too kind. I'll send you a copy of the CD when it's finally done.

I think the hobos need to take something up with their travel agent. Originally
the planet they're going to is made of pecan pie, but when they get there
it's actually made of styrofoam. Seems like a raw deal to me, but then again
I'm not a hobo.
